Hi everyone! This is my first time building a computer, and I'm looking for your thoughts on the components I've picked out so far, eg: are they good enough, would they be compatible. I have a budget of around £800, which needs to include the entire desktop, monitor, and keyboard. My proposed build costs about £780, and I could potentially go over 800 if needed, so if there are any components you think I could beef up (or indeed find a cheaper alternative) please say!

Proposed build: I've put all the parts I've planned here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/2BG2WIWJR2PTN/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o
I've done it this way so that prices and spec can be easily found.

As I say, I'm a bit of a newbie, so even though I've been trying quite hard to educate myself, there are probably a few mistakes with regards to compatibility or unsuitable parts. Any advice is really appreciated! :)

Apologies.

Approximate purchase date: unsure, possibly a few weeks

Budget Range: around £800, might be prepared to stretch further if it was really worth it. This has to cover the entire desktop, monitor, and keyboard. My proposed build costs about £780

System requirements: gaming, web surfing, movies, microsoft office applications

Parts not required: Mouse, speakers, OS

Prefered website for parts: no real preference

Country: England

Parts Preferences: -

Overclocking - probably not

Monitor resolution: Well I'm buying it as part of the build, the one I have proposed is 1920 x 1080

Proposed build can be found here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/2BG2WIWJR2PTN/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o

wow thanks for the reply! I see you've tried to save a bit by going for the sandy bridge rather than ivy bridge i5, I would have thought that the extra £25 for the ivy bridge would be worthwhile? Other than that are there any really significant differences between our set ups?

Main differences are:

Better GPU, which will be the limiter in games performance

Lesser CPU but as you're not overclocking I don't see a massive problem, but on the otherhand a locked ivy bridge would keep you going longer. As DABS are doing a £40 off for spends over £600 you could very easily fit an IVY in:
http://www.dabs.com/products/intel-core-i5-3450-s1155-3-1ghz-6mb-7YXL.html?refs=4294944663-480500000&src=3

H61 chipset (no overclocking) as compared to Ivy's Z77.

Better PSU

And IMO a nicer case, but it's a subjective thing.
