Hello,

I'm planning on upgrading soon from my LGA 1366 motherboard to a LGA 1150 / Z87 motherboard.

Is there anything else besides physically replacing the board (and replacing drives) that I will have to do? Any other software?

Thank you

Solution
you may have to re-install windows 7. And you will need a new CPU if you go to LGA 1150. A SATA III Drive like the one you listed will work with the GLA 1150 Socket in the SATA III 6GB/s ports.
you'll need an LGA 1150 CPU, as LGA 1366 CPU's won't ever work in a LGA 1150 Motherboard...but you most likely already know that.

-as you should know Get Drives that are SATA III 6GB/s.

-and your PSU has the right pin connection to the motherboard (i.e may be 20 to 24 pin)

an LGA 1150 CPU too?? that's preposterous.

will I have to reinstall windows 7?

SATA III Drives, as in the hardware (eg.: hard drive http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WD1002FAEX-Internal-Desktop/dp/B0036Q7MV0), not some software? yes, this is my first custom build

thank you

Thank you for your input. I was joking about the CPU chip 😀 I wasn't clear on what you meant by drives, but I understand. Swapping motherboards will be more straightforward than I thought.
