After Overclock, Core Speed keeps changing b/c of changing multiplier!

I have an Intel Q9300 Quad Core 2.4ghz processor with 1333mhz fsb (333mhz). I changed the fsb to 400mhz (1600mhz), but according to CPU-Z, my multiplier (unlocked-min. at 6, max at 7.5/actual value at 7.5) keeps changing between 6 and 7.5, changing my core speed from 2400mhz to 3000mhz repeatedly! The max fsb supported by the mobo is 1600mhz, so I can't overclock more than that. I have sufficient cooling, as my CPU generally stays around 30 degrees Celcius, and my motherboard generally stays around 43 degrees Celcius (according to bios, but I added 2-3 degrees). I OC'd through the ASUS motherboard's bios. Can someone help me out here please? Thank you very much in advance!

Hi there,
You can chill, its a power saving feature that drops the multiplier when the cpu is idle. You can disable it in bios if you want, look for something like C1E Support, you will probably find it in Advanced/CPU configuration

Intel SpeedStep is kicking in and lowering the multi when the CPU is somewhat idle. Disable that feature if you want, but if it doesn't cause any stability problems it doesn't really matter. I left mine on so I flux between 2700 and 3600.

Thx for the replies, guys. I googled and learned about C1E Support and Intel SpeedStep right after posting this, so I think I'll just leave them on to save power and extend my CPU life.
