Ahci failure

Hello, my 32-bit Windows XP Pro duo-core HP Pavillion a1440n desktop system (going on 3 yrs old) that gives me the BSOD when I turn on my computer. It's caught in a loop and continues to keep rebooting when in the AHCI mode. If I switch the SATA mode in the BIOS to IDE, it boots normally. It first rebooted suddenly by itself one day when I was working on my computer...and after that it has never booted in ACHI mode again. Can anyone tell me how to get around this problem? shiri2@verizon.net

To change the achi setting may require a complete windows repair or format. And the ide setting shouldn't affect the achi setting. Maybe it does on your board, but if it works, I would leave it alone.

You can change the IDE to ACHI without reinstalling windows - I managed to do so after forgetting to change the settings in BIOS before my install.

I will have a look for the simple instructions and post when I have found them
