AIW CARD and plays games too

Okay, I want to be able to play Madden 2005 with real good clarity, but also be able to record tv when i'm not playing or when i am playing. I've never used an AIW and I do not want to spend a fortune on buying one. Can someone please give me input on what kind of card is capable of doing these features?

Out of the Radeon 9600 or even the 9000.

Or is it better to go and buy a real good card for video games and then spend the extra money on a capture card such as the Msi Tv@nywhere?

I suggest you buy a seperate graphics card and a seperate tv capture card. I'm not saying the ATi AIW are bad at gaming or capturing, but its a combination card. I own an ATi 8500Dv and Im very happy about the capturing/tv capabilites. I was am also happy with the graphics, but thats because I only play cs every once in a while.

The problem with the combination card is that once you want to replace one part you have to replace both. The tv/capture part you probably will never want to replace unless it breaks down, but if you are an avid gamer, you'll probably want to replace the graphics every so often.

Generally you can afford much more video card if you get one without AIW. The 9000 really is NOT a good ideal if you plan on playing games, its not even a DirectX 9 card. Consider the 9600 card a minimum. A 9600XT AIW wouldn't be to bad, but there are some 9800 Pro cards in the same price range without the AIW.

I have a MSI TV@nywhere card, and have had no problems with it at all, it works great, and recording is simple.

The AIW is a good ideal but like Dosun said, you will be replacing your video card more often than you will a TV capture card.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll take both of those suggestions into consideration. Especially since I may not be doing as much video recording as I think.

What do you think of the Radeon 9700 for $150?

On the 9700, depends which 9700. Here are a few links I found, you may want to look at the 9600xt, great deal for the performance.

You'll notice the 9600 has a higher core speed than either 9700 card.

That seems to be a pricewatch link, you couldn't paid to much for that right? What'd it set you back from that site?

The 9700Pro cards I listed there were refurbished cards, as I don't believe they make the 9700 cards anymore, probably the best bang for the buck there was the 9600xt, at only $130.
