I am building my first computer and I needed some help. What am I missing? I know I'm missing thermal paste, but I don't know which one to get. I know I am also missing some coolers, but again I don't know which to get. Also, am I missing any cables? Sata, etc. If I am, please link me to some on Newegg.

Moreover, should I change the 5850 to one 5870? It's either going to be X2 5850's or one 5870. I already am at my budgets limit, so unless the performance is insanely greater don't recommend I get the X2 5850's.

Any help would be appreciated.

you need an operating system

windows 7 is recommended..

personally im a bit of a nvidia fan... the new cards are out soon which will alegedly knock down AMD's offerings...

more game companies are in bed with nvidia than ati and therefore the games are optimized.

also nvidia drivers are better writen, ati has had a glitch recently which was solved by a patch on all games... not good in my opinion...

AMD has a good card out - for the money a 5850 is better value... the 5870 is fools gold if you ask me... for the extra 100 dollars its not really going to turn the game more playable as the 5850 is still a fast card..

im using a nvidia gt250 and theres nothing that cant run on it.. and have never had issues as the black screen ati have had.

nvidia have a 3d technology out too which looks promising.

The extra $100 for the 5870 will make a decent difference in DX11 from what we know now, but the 5850 is one hell of a card on its own right.

Also nVidia's new offerings wont be out until mid-late march, and it will be another month or so before the card are actually able to be purchased. If you can wait that long then I suggest you do because, if nothing else, ATI's current prices should be lowered. If not then a 5850 or a 5870 is a great card and you should be very happy with it.

The past is irrelevant. AMD had to get their drivers better.. I remember when AMD had loads of issues with on set of drivers.


the 5800 series is the card which AMD has only trumped Nvidia for the last 2-3 years..

Nvidia has done damage to it self by the bga problem with laptop solutions.
