Every motherboard has a list of supported CPUs for that specific mobo. It's just a matter of navigating to the vendor's website for the board and viewing the "CPU Support List"

No motherboard would support AM3+ in AM3 motherboards if bending or removing a pin was required. Many AM3 motherboard had slots with the right extra pin for AM3+. You need to know the exact motherboard before you try this.
