Hi I continue my quest for the best CPU for gaming but also as important if not more video rendering!

I currently have an i3 2100 rig with a 7850, seems okay but lacks the raw power when under massive stress like rendering hd video or using blender. so it is time for an upgrade.

MY H67 MOTHERBOARD IS FAULTY!

so i am going to do a much needed upgrade.

The options are the AMD 8320 which i just have a weird feeling about making me really want it.

My other choice is an i5 2400 it is currently cheap, but only have 4 cores not so good for the future!

Please fight it out to help me choose! i sway between the cpus everyday but cant decide.

PLEASE HELP ME....................

Thanks Guys

If it is an ATX Mid tower or above it will work fine. Certain Micro-ATX cases might struggle to fit a very large CPU coolers. Your best bet is a Hyper 212 EVO for a easy, reliable CPU cooler.

I have looked at the Hyper 212 EVO but so many reviews/benchmarks say it shouldn't be used for overclocking, which i dont understand because i have read lots that people have managed to overclock the 8320 to 4ghz on stock coolers. I would imagine an after market cooler is Superior to the low cost coolers amd and intel include?

Or what about a cheap water cooler? although putting water next to my new reasonably expensive system scares me

Ehh go with a Quality Water Cooler (they are safe) if you want to do OCs to around Late 4GHz-5GHz, if you want to OC a little bit go with the H212, which is a fine little cooler (much better than stock)

what could i safely overclock the 8320 to with a hyper 212 evo? the 8350 is 4ghz with standard cooler so shore the 8320 could match 4ghz if not a tiny bit more? Does the sabertooth have a standard program which you can use to overclock easily? asrock are promoting there one click overclock

Via the UEFI BIOS (easy to use) you can overclock from there, Use advanced mode and go to the AI Tweaker. Adjust the CPU Clock, voltage, etc. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1639/4/ You should be able to go to 4.5GHz with LLC disabled and the voltage at 1.4V, then again just take it carefully and see some OC posts with a 8320/50 as I am no expert on ocing a 83XX...
BTW: Really good PSU you should consider: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-EarthWatts-Series-EA-650-Supply/dp/B0071I55PY/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1364326498&sr=1-2 People say this is a great PSU (and you get an extra 100W for futureproofing over the other Antec) and I've recomended it to a few others

Thanks i will have a look at some OC 212 evo posts now.
Many Thanks

That is wicked, I would be happy with that! more than i expected! what about if i went with a corsair H40 water cooler? any better?

LOLNO. The H60 is on par with a 212+, that would be the most misleading downgrade known to man...

HAHAHAHA Thanks! Why the hell would corsair make a water cooler that is worse than a air cooler? must be just ripping off their customers

the evo http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-120mm/dp/B0068OI7T8/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1364330286&sr=1-1

H212EVO all the way, and are you considering the PSU I recomended? Remember to check many posts while OCing that 8320.

I was a bit cheeky with the PSU i knew i wouldnt buy another 7850 for over a year so decided to go with only 550w XFX psu as it was on offer! All the reviews for the XFX 550w where good so i decided to get it as it was on offer! pretty close to basically building a whole new system!

Ok just remember when you get a more powerful GFX card to upgrade the PSU...

Yeah will do! What put me off was spending another £75 once I just spent hundreds on the cpu and mobo 🙁 need more money to complete the build! So from now on it going to become a project! How much does it cost for the bridge between graphic cards in crossfire/ sli?

It should come with the 990FX, but remember if you are going to get a CF Setup, upgrade that PSU and you will have a beastly machine.

Thanks for your assistance, this new setup should be able to max most things out at the moment I believe! But most importantly reduce my rendering time down! My i3 system is so dreadfully slow at rendering! Might just have to get crysis 3 or what ever thr new is to test this machine out haha cant wait to put it together

Speaking of Crysis 3, you should be able to max it out. What brand 7850 and how much GDDR5? You can max it and good framerates if you turn off Vsync and use 2X AA or other AA Types

I bought the MSI 7850 OC 1gb, load on benchs showed the 1gb oc as fast as the 2gb or just a frame or 2 less

Good choice, you should be getting GTX 480 performance BTW. Another thing, rendering may benefit from extra RAM. If I were rendering I would get a 7870 though, it is worth the hassle.

I will keep it in mind, might get two 7870 and a bigger psu in may December or after battlefield 4 gets released. I'm sure this system will be able to play battlefield 4 anyway but hey why not use it as another excuse to upgrade.

😀

How much more ram do I need for rendering?

For good rendering, 16GB (or more) will give you the best performance, 8GB is more than plenty for gaming but for rendering, sell the 8GB and get yourself a 16GB stick. 16GB is the gold standard for editing/rendering machines.

Would it not be better to have 4 x 4 gb sticks?
