*AMD 8320FX 5GHz With MSI 990FXA GD65 Possible ?*

I have that board but with a 8350. It's most definitely possible. I'm not running close to that fast (a modest 4.2), but it's doable at any time. Just make sure you've got adequate ventilation in your case and cooling for your CPU and you should be fine.

Good luck.

What are your bios settings ? ?? and youve hit 5 GHz with that board ?

Tell me your settings please :)

As I said, no, I've not bothered to go that high despite being able to do so. The board and the CPU is capable of doing it easily. You'd be better served doing some online research and checking forums that specifically cater to those who like to overclock. I do so very lightly as I'd prefer to not wear my stuff out prematurely or damage it just messing around.

If its so "easy" why haven't you? This is a very untrue statement. the GD65 is a fair to poor overclocking board. You need at least a Sabertooth R2. A whole different league as far as boards go. To get to 5 GHz you also need a real good chip. PLUS you need a custom loop to cool it. Been there, done that.

If you know what you're doing and have the right mix of components, it's pretty easy. Why haven't I done it? I've addressed that already: I don't see any need to prematurely wear my kit. I ran it for a while @ 4.8 on air and entirely without incident. Could I have run it up to 5? Probably. Would I see a huge improvement? Not likely. You DO NOT need a Sabertooth board to overclock by any means, so why don't you stop with the untrue statements? I said it was POSSIBLE, not a guaranteed sure thing.

You said 5 GHz was easy. You know that isn't true. Or maybe you don't know lol! Nobody said you needed a Sabertooth to overclock. To get to 5 GHz you pretty much do. You do need one or a board of similar ilk like a Crosshair or UD7 to get a stable, non throttling overclock at 5 GHz. A GD65 ain't getting you there. You also need a custom loop at those kinds of speeds. Yeah what you say is "possible". As in .0000001% From now on I will call you Mr. Backtrack.

Call me what you want. It matters not. The GD65 CAN get you there. You don't need a custom loop, either. Such a shame that such utter ignorance exists when it's entirely possible and that was exactly my point. You merely want to pick at semantics and that's fine. Whatever works for you. MSI makes some of the best boards around and that's without question.
