There hasnt been a bsod since. graphics card wouldnt cause a bsod like that would it?
due to slow performance could that also be a result of a bsod

ok hopefully my new ram should come this week seeing as its back to the beginning basically with this new ram lol, what settings should i start off with once again.

thanks

Just try everything stock, see what happens. What psu are you using by chance?

Yea that is right, I already asked you that and you linked. It is 80plus certified right? Enermax makes good psus.

I seriously cannot wait when my (if my) ram gets here, 2gb is almost unbearable and i wonder why, its acting even slower than the core 2 duo downstairs thats never had a fresh install in years lol.. perhaps its not in dual channel thats why needs 2 sticks, no idea

Just keeping the thread alive =P
Yes my ram has arrived, will install now!
;installed, seemed to be working just fined, mem test not showing up errors like the other one.

Again, i will state my settings what i currently have now.. and we can work from here

Thanks

Cpu at 3.8ghz
nb - 2000
ram is at 1333 8-8-8-24 currently
cpu voltage - 1.429v

everything else pretty much at auto / default, i have not run any extensive tests yet but obviously this is like going back to scratch with help so i want to see what settings i should change first before doing some prime testing.

Thanks again

Np man, I'm still here as well. I get email alerts so I'll respond if you run into an issue I can help with :)

Thanks so how shall i go about the settings before i do an overnight test?

I'd say run IBT on Standard with all of your hardware at stock settings. then we can move on to Prime95 testing overnight, and IBT standard test will only last about 10minutes and will give you a good vantage point. If it passes that then it is at least stable enough for games and regular tasks. Then Prime will determine stability in all situations.

Whats IBT?

I ran prime overnight with the settings i stated above and prime still exited out..completely gone. And google chrome wont even open either. Wow, new ram and still getting this problem ... Do you think its my os, corrupted somehow? i havent put anything dodgy on it so i do not see how however the ram from before might have caused something to go wrong? ive no idea now, i dont think it would be the graphics card?

Like Chris mentioned, default settings on your PC (e.g. CPU, RAM, Videocard, etc. at factory settings).

I'd suggest stock clock on the CPU, voltage on 1.4V, Mem @ 1333 9-9-9-27-2T. Remove any OC you currently have then check for stability so we can have a baseline.

Ok, will do overnight.

Thanks.

Ok, will do overnight.

Thanks.

Hi a bit of good news, prime was still on and running fine overnight.
And thats with exactly the settings you just stated there, 1.4v, those ram timings, and everything else stock. I hope i dont turn out to have a 'bad oc' chip, but if it is, oh well. Hopefully we can make some progress from here...

Dont worry about the 55 max it would be a little lower but i had a cover on top of the case just to stop the lights from lighting up the room

Thanks again.

bump cpu multiplier +1 and see if you can still run prime.

Just an extra 100mhz?
Ok. An overnighter right?

You have to see how much you can add with a lower (default) voltage and take it from there.

LinX 5 pass and Prime 1-2 hours. If it passes, try adding another 1 on the multi.

Yea, you have it right. Just follow Abegnale's instructions, small incremental increases in freq until you aren't stable. After that you can up voltage to achieve a higher clock speed. At least you are stable at stock now!

Ok a update.. after a few prime overnights, prime does not crash. Here are what i have. Has passed a few full linx tests also. I reached about 56 max perhaps my voltage needs to go down i dont know?

CPU - 3.7 Ghz, i backed it down just to see if it was stable. Have not tried 3.8 yet.
CPU V - 1.43V
RAM - 8-8-8-24 1333mhz

What changes should i make next?

Thanks.

Well you can now try for 3.8ghz if you want to, good to see you are stable at 3.7 though thats great. Your voltage and temps are fine, 56c max is very acceptable for that chip when overclocking, 62c is the maximum temp you should allow and it should only spike that high never run like that.

You should try some gaming or other tasks you will be using the pc for and keep your temp monitoring software up to see how hot things get. If you are running consistently over 55c then I'd stay at 3.7ghz. If your temps are averaging lower you can go for more clock speed if you want, when I owned my 965 BE I was able to get it to 3.8ghz, I couldn't get it stable any higher than that. If you do decide to go higher raise the multi again to 3.8ghz and stress test, if you crash raise your voltage alittle more until you can get stable. Let us know how it goes :)
