M e too. Im saying, having all the promise of a hex core with 12 threads means nothing, much like a gfx card that no one uses the DX for etc etc
Lots of hype, low real wotld value but to a very few
HW has to lead the way

that is true. Intel and AMD have to create the market for it before that dog will hunt. I think games that take advantage of multiple cores will be a dismal number until consoles benefit from it as well. not may pure pc games left anymore.

12 threads vs 8 ... 1% performance improvement overall.

Sounds like we have a problem Housten.

The hex core Opty would be just the same on a desktop ... make no mistake there.

Hence AMD won't be pushing out one ... unless they are stupid.

No discernable increase in IPC for the individual core means no real increase in performance on the desktop ... for most stuff anyway.

The few programs that make good use of more than two cores are just not there yet.

Hence why the E8400, E8500, and E8600 are still priced quite high, and still selling well.

Hell, our OS' just sorta opened the doors to MT anyways. No matter how many cores you had, itd still been limited on xp.
Weve been thru it, saw single to dual, and yes dual kicked butt, but quad is just smoother, as duals can get jumpy, but they dont stall, or at least not that often, like single cores did.
I say, make the apps stall, bring on MT, but of course they wont, cant make money on something that doesnt run on everything out there, at least within reason.
If this is a chicken or egg thing, either the egg will be rotten, or the chicken too old to lay before things change, because, now, apps makers have the option to do nothting, and cover their bases til, we, the consumer get enough "numbers" to make that change.
I say, kill all the bean counters

What about e-peen?

How many people would just buy it to say, "I have hex-core you don't!"

Well I would eventually get one ... just not right away.

I should put soap in your mouth missy ... its past your bedtime and only private school kids here in the West have a holiday tomorrow !!

Off you go now ... heh heh.

:/

I'll sleep when I want.

Heres some of that momentum ATI is having

With the only DX11 available cards coming, and their rumored power, this is looking good, and too bad this didnt come out before the analists decided what they did about nVidia, as theres still no news from the green camp, and usually no news is bad news, and the only rumors are for next year for nVidia, with 1 going for Dec on their new cards release

Yeah, I noticed their stock price is doing well (compared to early 2009). All the people that bought around $2.00 have now doubled their money.

That'd be me.

And you said they would just go lower 😛.

I look forward to advances that each company gives us. I've always been an AMD fan, but I also own Intel products. There was some very informative replies in this thread.
