AMD Athlon II X3 455, need processor fan?

Title says it all, will be getting this soon for my dell inspiron 570, should i get a new processor fan? Tried upgrading my exhaust fan but of course STUPID DELL decided not to put an extra 4 prong cable so I can't really plug in any exhaust fans :/

Yeah, the processor comes with a fan included in the box and if I'm not totally off, the cooler for the cpu is a large aluminum heatsink and a 92mm fan mounted to the top of it. You can view the information here

It's adequate for stock but if you're going to overclock the processor...then I would look at this for complete cooling and reliability

For very little money..this thing rocks out and is a far, far better choice...if only running stock, stay with the included cooler but if you want to punch it up for performance then I would invest $35 and get this cooler....it also allows for use on anything up to quad or six core amd and intel both...this is one of the best available on the market for air cooling and low cost DOES NOT MEAN low performance in this particular case...this thing rocks out!

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer...it's what comes as original equipment DIRECT from the factory...that's how the model is ALWAYS packaged and what's included in the box....for some items like video cards...the manufacturer card that is sold is also modified by the VENDORS...like MSI, ASUS, Sparkle etc....they take OEM equipment, and modify it with extra items like better fans, heat sink shrouds, or they even order from the manufacturer with differing specifications than the stock part...the boards are made a bit different, with differing components... much like buying a stock mustang or buying a SHELBY mustang...or a Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Bronco...the stock comes from the manufacture but there are special edition models available as well....IE...OEM vs Special Edition whatever!!!

Sorry for car comparison...but concept is easier to understand that way or at least easier to explain that way.

The 212+ MAY be too big (too tall for the case), but it will absolutely work with AM3. And 120mm is just the fan size. 158.5mm is the height. In any case, as long as you got a boxed retail CPU, you won't need a 212+ unless you want to OC.

You're talking about the HSF (heatsink) fan, right? I assume so, since you say that you already tried an exhaust fan. I'm not aware of any place you can get a stock HSF without the CPU, except for maybe eBay.

Just for future reference and clarity, "fan" usually means exhaust fan and the HSF is what goes on the CPU.

+1 it's true, AMD stock fan especialy the one with heatpipes is quite good if u don't mind the sound.

If one doesn't come with the CPU, then it's like I said. As far as I know, you can only get the stock HSF without the CPU from a place like eBay. Other than that, you'll have to go with aftermarket like the 212+ or something similar.

LOL, I think we were all a bit confused, but that's ok. Anyway, the one I linked would be just fine if it fits in the case. Hell, the 212+/Evo MIGHT even work.

Do you know how deep (from the mobo to the side of the case) your case is? If it's at least 145mm or so deep, the TX3 I linked would be great (it's 139mm tall, so that just gives a little extra room for socket height and so it's not just jammed directly into the side of the case).

Measure the distance from the socket on the mobo to the side of the case (might have to estimate a mm or two depending on how far out the case sides go (If the sides aren't completely flat)). The easiest way to do that, I guess, would be to put it on its side and measure up.

Just looked it up, and it says that the case is 175.9mm wide, so that's plenty, even for a Hyper 212 Evo at 159mm (even taking the mobo height into account). It might be close to the side of the case, but my guess is that it would fit just fine. The TX3 would definitely fit, though.

And it comes with universal retention brackets, so you don't have to worry about it lining up with the holes. Just follow the instructions about which position the brackets needs to be set at.
