Why would they do that, i see no reason why they would...now this thing has to be reviewed

NVidia can get 5-15% gains between releases in some games. There's no reason AMD can't do the same. HSA is a new beast.

Well he's comparing 3.12 to 14.2. That's 2 driver release difference.

Then again it's a fairly tweaked system. A 1 TB SSD and 2400Mhz RAM. Far from a budget gaming build.

Those gains are normal for newer game releases. When they first come out they tend to get 5-15% jumps with newer driver's. A lot of people were having issues in CFX with Thief until the 14.2 driver which also boosted performance as well.

These however are older games that have probably already had all the optimization they could get already.

14.2 did a few things, it added a proper CFX profile for Thief and improved single GPU performance on that game, added up to 4 GPU support for Mantle in BF4 and the rest were fixes of known issues. Other than that, per AMD, there was nothing stating that the APUs should see a 40% increase in gaming.

Do you have minimum fps as well?

Glad to see it in at the same level than i5-2500k, as predicted, and above i3 Haswell and FX-4350.

Something worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks/months: Two recent games, Thief and Titanfall, offer very uneven performance on consoles, while running silky smooth on most PCs. Poor job of coding, or evidence of another problem?

I watched a few Titanfall gameplay videos that looked alright to me. As with most launches is it the network getting overloaded or is it still buggy? I definitely saw at least 1 rendering bug, where some horizontal bars being overlayed with text somehow became bound to the top of the persons gun for a few seconds after respawning. Looked weird but the commentator didn't seem to notice. He was too busy having fun.

The XB1's signature game sometimes falls to single-digit FPS levels. Kinda sums up how badly underpowered this generation of games is going to end up being. I'm REALLY starting to worry we are about to enter a dark age of gaming, due to both the weak consoles this gen and the collapse of most independent AAA studios.

just proves how sad the xbone is, silly kids you should've bought an PS4.

really is sad even a 6 core Amd with a 250$ processor can beat that, you can build a machine for 600$ that can do more. Again theres no reason for that system to even exist except for competition, i feel like that's the reason Microsoft is marketing this machine for entertainment over pure gaming. I'll probably always stick with Nintendo+PC.

I suspect the problems are either CPU side (meaning the PS4 would have the same problems), or the OS and its scheduler killing some performance (as opposed to hard coding everything). Point being, both consoles do have somewhat heavy OS's to carry around with them now, with their own distinct schedulers and memory managers...

I am interested in that but then again in DX11 mode I get 120FPS average playing Thief so Mantle is kind of pointless.

I think Mantle will be useful only when they start to support lower end GPUs and it benefits them. If you get 120FPS in DX11, another 5-10FPS means nothing.

We still have VALVe at least who is still being themselves. I doubt they will ever turn into a company like EA as they are still privately owned.

And since they are mainly a PC gaming company that ports to consoles, I can see them doing HL3 and it blowing the world away like HL2.

A guy can wish anyways.

The PS4 actually has been having issues as well with games trying to run at 1080p:

http://www.craveonline.com/gaming/articles/650465-thief-ps4s-low-framerate-is-proof-that-1080p-isnt-always-the-answer

Thief actually runs better on the XB1. Of course it is running at a lower Res but that's just to show that not only the XB1 is having issues.

It does make me wonder if the CPU might be just a bit too weak or if it is a software issue. I guess we will find out with time.

As for the XB1, Microsoft found that towards the end people had multiple 360s and a lot of them were being used for media and entertainment more than gaming. That is why they designed the XB1 as a more all in one experience rather than a pure gaming console.

PC is still better but I will admit the XB1 looks interesting, especially since it can be used as a HDMI pass through. You can hook your PS4 up to the XB1 and it will work.

Some companies look at what people are actually doing rather than assuming. Look at Ford, for example. When SVT was going to do another Lightning they went to multiple truck shows and found that people were not interested in a truck that could smoke a Corvette but rather in off-road. So they designed the SVT Raptor, which is awesome. Now it looks like Chevy is coming out with something similar, the Reaper.

I think Microsoft made the right choice in the end although I will never buy one for myself, hell I have a PC that is well more powerful than a console will ever be. I just think people will like a more all in one experience.

What they really need to do is make the console capable of multi screen setup to allow for stats on one and the game on the other or game on one and movie on the other.

I think its Microsoft's stupid decision to go with DDR3(+ESRAM) ram vs GDDR5 some PS4 games drop FPS however its doing it with higher resolutions and its playing at higher FPS still. Many Xbox one titles are either running at lower resolutions or having FPS issues. I suspect it's also because developers are unfamiliar with the embedded ram not to mention its only a small buffer and its bandwidth isn't much faster compared to the GDDR5 ram in the PS4. So i'll probably always call the xbone a overpriced console compared to its competition, it's almost like Microsoft isn't good at making hardware. So now Microsoft went with a gimmicky camera with marketing calling it an entertainment console, in which you still have to pay for a gold membership to even use netflix:pfff:.

How would developers be unfamiliar with the ESRAM when it was also present in the 360s chip? I would rather think they would be very familiar with it considering that the PS3 had a more powerful CPU yet the games were almost identical on both the 360 and PS3.

And while some see Kinect as "gimmicky" if you add in the PS4 equivalent to it, it cost as much if not more than the XB1. I think it is a neat idea and will probably be more likely to exist in the future than what the PS3 had (Move which was just the same as the Wii).

It's definitely not a "CPU performance" issue, these next gen consoles have better CPU's then their predecessors. If I had to take a SWAG I'd peg it on the OS being too bloated for console level hardware. Consoles are and have always been super low spec systems bordering on budget territory. They have relied on low level optimizations and a thin OS to get the most from hardware. It seems this time around MS and Sony have made too thick of a OS. That's just a guess though.

And before anyone trys to spout out about it using AMD's many weaker cores design, the PS3 used a Cell processor which is far more exotic and just as wide as the current console APU. If they could program for the cell they can program for this.

Xbox fans are the ones stating the esram statement, you can find some developers saying that as well really i don't get why, and yes i find the move thing to be completely irrelevant to gaming or very gimmicky.
But i'll have to stop you when you're stating the PS3 statement about the processor. Yes the Cell processor was more powerful however the PS3 had some major limits in the hardware besides the CPU which isn't as important as other factors for gaming. For starters once again we had a troll decision with the PS3 where it only had half the ram for for the GPU vs the 360, that is why most games look worse on the PS3 when compared to the 360 and they run at lower FPS, you can look at many different titles for that comparison. So to keep this in mind once again GPU>CPU any day on a console. Also from a programing prospective the cell processor was hard to program for also the Xbox 360 did have edram where the PS3 had nothing like that. Plus the GPU in the 360 was just more powerful in terms of shader operations 74.8B vs 96B for the X360.

Even with a more powerful GPUS (I know all about the R600 in the 360 vs the GTX7800 in the PS3) the CPU could still hold it back. Mantle is a great example. Mantle benefits weaker CPU systems with powerful GPUs more as it is helping to remove that bottleneck of the weaker CPU. Since the 360 would not have that, the only way to help would be the ESRAM.

My main point was that developers have been working with the 360 for 8 years so I would assume they know how to program for the ESRAM.

I honestly think the entire issue is that the systems are running on very entry level hardware on the CPU side. If you look up the specs, it is two quad core Jaguar cores. They have at best 2MB L2 cache with no L3. The L2 is 2MB shared between 4 cores.

Still I am a PC fanboy but I think it is just that the hardware is new and lower end so they wont get it right for a few years.

1080P and 60FPS is even hard for my PC, i would have to really make some horrible decisions on a lot of games for the graphic settings to make this possible, However i don't mind 30+ gameplay but i do get mad when my system runs at a very low FPS which i rate anything under 30FPS to be that. My point is having just a 7790 or a 7870 and expecting 1080P+60FPS is just a hard thing to do regardless if i have an I7 or an A4.
Looking at some latest spec's my PC really seems to be getting classified as being a lower-end gaming machine but yet i still feel no reason to upgrade since it can still play the latest games at my requirements.
