And is that 3 intake holes just like the R7-260X? What happened to using 2x mini-DP like their previous gen cards?

It's 6 months behind Nvidia so it had better offer pretty good price/performance. Either way it's good for NV users like me because it'll lower 700 series prices.

I hope they simplify the codes or are those just insider code names? Radeon 5xxx 6xxx etc and GTX 6xx 7xx are all pretty easy to remember.

Cool cards. AMD can seriously catch up now. New Nvidia cards are 6 months or so ahead, so they have a clear advantage as well.

However, they did completely shoot themselves in the foot with the naming. They probably won't attract much casual customers because of it. I mean... seriously, they could have done MUCH better. three digit HD XXX. Three digit name following generation "RX XXX" Series number followed by color. "R1 Blue" IDK...

Minus the GTX780 which was a lower end GK110 die and cut back memory.

But then again NVidia was quite behind AMD with the GTX 600 series. The 700 refresh caught them up and they used GK110 to jump over the HD7970 until Maxwell.

Still HI XT looks promising and so do the prices we know so far. If it hits $500 I may upgrade.

Remember these demo cards are not necessarily final release.

Ya, it has two crossfire connectors. So you could potentially go quad.
Just google: R9-290x, over 100 sites have news now and some have more tech details.
It also has 6 billion transistors, is rated at 5000 gigaflops, 270 watt TDP

They should have final cards now as I believe they are giving/sending them out to reviewers under NDA right now. This isn't a 'wood screws' card.

After doing some digging, it looks like there is really only two new GPUs being introduced here, which are the Radeon R9 290X and the Radeon R9 290. These look like they will have 44 and 36 CUs respectively (or 2816 and 2304 unified shaders) based on leaked specs. As for the rest, they're just rebadged parts from the 7000 series.

The R9 280X is a Radeon HD 7970 (32 CUs, 2048 shaders).

The R9 280 is a Radeon HD 7950 (28 CUs, 1792 shaders).

The R9 270X is a Radeon HD 7870 XT (also referred to as the 7890, 24 CUs, 1536 shaders).

The R9 270 is a Radeon HD 7870 (20 CUs, 1280 shaders)

The R7 260X is a Radeon HD 7850 (16 CUs, 1024 shaders)

The R7 260 is a Radeon HD 7770 (10 CUs, 640 shaders)

An your source for this infomation ? Cause last I knew there using GCN 2.0 ? Or am I mistaken :/.

Hmm.... so there would be different generation GPU within same generation naming. Still that list does not seems to be very coherent. 7870 and 7850 are based on same GPU and they belongs to different Rx gategory. Also 7950 and 7870 are based on different GPU and still have the same Rx gategory. Something is not right in here.
We have seen rebadges a lot lately, but I still would wait for official naming before accepting the above.
R8 would be more logical gategory to the whole old 78xx family IMHO, but naming is not allways logical thing to do...
So I wait new naming system with my fingers grossed and hope that there would be some logic in it!

The Mighty Mo'.... I actually was part of the team that helped get her to Hawaii. She was towed out of Bremerton, WA down to Astoria, OR to "soak" in the freshwater before going to Pearl Harbor for restoration. I was finally able to go to Hawaii and see her back in February. The ship has a lot of history behind her.
