AMD K62s and 3s

I presume that most of the people on this forum are from the USA, do any of you know of a vendor who would sell me a K63 or a plus variety, and ship it to me in the UK?

UK consumers don't enjoy the same level of choice as those in the US. I know the K6-3+ was supposed to be for OEMs only but can I get one retail? What is a good motherboard to use with this chip? AMD claim it won't work with a S7, but we know this not be be the case?

I don't need to be able to overclock, as I am trying to build a low cost computer for my mother, stability is all important as it is to be used for work.

If your looking for a good low cost solution your better off with a duron/soketa motherboard, they are not expensive and they run stable, you will also get a good upgrade possibility for later when the higher mHz part get lower prices. The price difference between a complete k6x system and a duron system is so small, its not worth it. k6x are good for upgrade but not buying a hole computer.

Check out AmdZone's forum here. They have a lot of info on using the K6-X+ processors in desktop systems. I'm not sure about shipping to the UK, but check out the vendors listing K6-III+'s at PriceWatch. I received my K6-III+ 450 last week from one of them, SoftwareAndStuff.

i do live in the us so i can't really suggest anything, but if you go to www.pricewatch.com just look around untill you find a vendor with a price you like and ask them if they ship to the uk or italy.

Hey,

Darkguard had a very good point. Your better off going with a socketA/duron combo. Durons are highly overclockable, and stable. Plus if you get that extra cash someday you can go up to a K7-Tbird.

You are right but...I'd be looking at around $150.00 for a Asus or Abit Socket A board. I am prepared to spend that but with DDR right around the corner I decided to wait a while. My $42.95 K63+450@550 was a cheap interim solution till what I really want: T-Bird with 133MHz FSB and DDR becomes available.

You don't have to go the long way to USA. Here in Germany (Munich exactly) you can buy K6-2+ and K6-3+ retail at around $80. Not _THAT_ cheap but you can buy them :)
Probably I will exchange my Server K6-3 400 for a K6-3+500 *g*

Good luck
Frank

Yeah UK,Italy,Israel...
Any good shops that send to other places than US.
On pricewatch.com they only send to US.

SoftwareAndStuff.

Got mine there also k63+ 450 running 112fsb x 4.5 multiplier on a soltek board. CPUmark99 56.2 However make sure your bios supports this chip first Just because it supports the k6-3 does not mean it will support the k6-3+ I have several boards that would not fire with it yo have to make sure you have a bios that supports it

Just bought a amdk6-2 550+ installed in in a dfi k6bv3+/66 motherboard overclocked it to 600mhz at it's normal voltage of 2.0v Runs rock solid and 10deg cooler than my amd500k6-2 in the same Motherboard. Got the k6-2+ off e-bay there are k6-3+ processors on there also....
