Hi there
I'm looking a mb to update my current one which is an ASUS A7V KT133, I'm using TB750 now but i'm planning to upgrade to Athlon XP 1800+
Do I have to pay a lot for a good mb that supports Athlon XP+ CPUs(all freqs.), DDR 2700 RAM and AGP 8X (actually is 4X sufficient? I have no idea)

I'd just like to have a rough idea on the price of a good piece of MB that everybody likes to assemble their machines with nowadays.
Any help will be appreciated.

I like my 7VRXP but it's only AGP 4X. Right now there's little or no performance gain but in a year there probably will be.

Hmm, i'll second the vote on the Ga-7vaxp, it's a nice board, not too expensive. Most of the Epox and Abit boards overclock VERY well. MSI has some decent, inexpensive boards with a cool red PCB. Asus boards are very reliable, although expensive. Soyo boards (in my experience) also tend to overclock well, as well as having a lot of fun features, one word though, EXPENSIVE!

Soon enough, Intel will make the i845s...imagine dual channel Sdram...*shudder*

thanks for the input, i think i'll try to narrow my criteria down..

Well, as I'm doing a whole pc upgrade right now, I don't plan to having to upgrade my mobo when I get a faster cpu in the future. So other than stability and good price I'm also looking for the ability to upgrade, I'm going for Athlon 1800+ now, which should I choose?

there's a lot of good KT333 boards which are in my opinion just as good as a KT400 board. For the money boards such as the Asus A7N266-VM (roughly $75) are great for price/performance and features... granted a board like that only comes with 2 DIMM's and 3 PCI slots (has an AGP slot), but since the board already comes with a NIC, Sound and Video it's really hard to imagine needing more. Also I've never had the need for more than 2 sticks of memory... often times boards are either unstable or all together slow when populating all DIMM's. I'm not a huge fan of VIA, so personally I'd go with a Nvidia board or even an SiS745board. Abit makes a very good board in the NV7-133R which has no integrated graphics and has USB 2.0, Raid, Ethernet, and Dolby Digital sound.

MSI KT3 Ultra2. Fast, stable and inexpensive.
