Hello everyone,

AMD needs your help

As we continue to improve our Catalyst Driver suite, for the next 7 days we are making a concerted effort to increase the number of reports we receive to create a “bible” of bugs/issues encountered by our customers to help us make our Catalyst Driver better.

We kindly ask you to help us by submitting any issues or bugs you have experienced with our drivers by using the special submission form below. Note that this form (which closes on Sept 12), is different from the standard Issue Reporting Form we regularly use; therefore I ask that you use this form even if you used another form already.

Please click here to access the form.

Thank you very much!

I'm wonderful. I guess I don't mind putting in my information again. Probably the biggest issue with the drivers themselves involves Steam's big picture. Valve themselves has mentioned the huge instability of Big Picture mode on AMD cards but have yet to fix it due to them being extremely preoccupied with their own SteamOS development and other projects. I would go out and see what they have to say about as I believe that statement was said around 2013. Just a neat little fact I'd point out.

If you have any issues with the cooling on your card or any other DOA parts please contact your GPU vendor and request a replacement. Be sure to tell Kevin I said hi. :) (He is the guy who approves RMAs at XFX and I've talked to him a lot in the past)

Nice to see this thread, even though too late to report. Are you guys doing a per release of Catalyst thread like this? I just had to RMA my Gigabyte R9 280 due to artifacts and BSoDs. Hoping the new card doesn't have the same problems :/

Well it was within 30 days of purchase so I RMA'ed through Newegg; and it was received, posted, and approved for replacement all in the same day!
Good to know about Gigabyte though.. even though that bites!

Hello everyone,

First, I'd like to thank you very much for submitting your feedback through the Special Submission Form I've mentioned in my OP. We've received a lot of information which is helping us tremendously with making our driver better.

Second, yes, I've been announcing the availability of our new drivers here at TH (most recent out being Catalyst 14.9 launched on September 29: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2316831/amd-catalyst-driver-windows-linux.html) for the past few months and plan on doing so moving forward to ensure I keep track of your comments/feedback and report back to our Driver Team.

Thank you 🙂

I've always wondered what causes the classic bug where CCC won't open; most often after updating drivers. Even rolling back to the previously installed ones doesn't allow you to open CCC either in most cases. Of course it can be simply fixed with a full manual driver uninstall (which I'm obviously used to by now).

Has the driver team ever pinpointed the cause of this issue? I would say it affects generally all AMD users at one point in time or another. It's been a chronic problem for as long as I can remember.

Oh and AMD should be a bit more specific on the driver details as 14.9 is a WHQL signed driver, but some users became a bit confused regarding the fact whether it was a WHQL signed driver or not. Albeit some nerds in the enthusiast sectors of the community but users nonetheless. (You know those people who actually read the driver release notes 😛)

Hello Dovah-chan (everyone),

Catalyst 14.9 is a WHQL signed driver.

The driver team is currently working on finding the cause as well as delivering a fix as soon as possible. On my front, I'm doing my best to keep everyone updates as much as possible...thank you very much for you patience everyone.

Hello MrPeek,
Thank you for using the form.

I looked at the post and will personally send the information to both our Driver Team and our Customer Support team in a moment to cover all ends. If you don't mind, could you please send me a PM? (It will help me communicate with you better).

hi warsam, can you at least tell your driver team to put "dynamic vsync" into the driver? seriously, without radeonpro i can't play games.

i hope you guys are testing how your videocards work with vsync as it is god awful to play when your fps dips from 60fps to 30 fps, either this or your live with a bazzillion instances of screen tearing.

your radeon cards are broken without radeonpro.

sapphire 280x user here.

Hello wh3resmycar (great name by the way 🙂 )

I have shared numerous comments and suggestions about the integration of dynamic vsync with our Driver Team. I can assure you that they are aware of this feature request.

Also, as dovah-chen has mentioned already, please take a look at our newly updated Project Freesync FAQ, I'm sure you'll find lots of useful information there.

Hey Sam ,

Thanks for your attention we all hope that our feedback will help with future issues , I have received a couple of issues from my clients that the new drivers will not work with the R9 280X , I am yet to get the computers back and fix them but I was just wondering if that has to do anything with the drivers rather than the clients not being able to install the drivers for some reason.

Thanks for your attention.

Hello TopLuca,

Not knowing the driver version your clients have tried to install, I suggest you try to install Catalyst 14.9 (WHQL) first. If you do experience random system hangs or crashes, or intermittent black screens (BSODs) while rebooting after installing 14.9, then install Catalyst 14.9.1

Note, make sure to completely uninstall previous drivers from the system.

Here is the link to our official Graphics Drivers and Software page: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
You'll finds lots of useful links there, including How-To Uninstall AMD Catalyst™ Drivers From A Windows® Based System

They tried to install 14.9 , however I think they are first time users ( haven't used desktop pcs before ) so I am not sure what they've done .

Once I get the PCs back I'll let you know how did it go , I knew about the uninstallation utility & how to ; however I'd like to thank you for the valuable info and time 😉

Hello TopLuca,

Yes, please let me know how it goes. Just post here again or send me a PM, we're here to help. :)

Hi Warsam... thank you for opening this thread. I only have but one request from you guys. I hope it's not much.
Could you guys make the CrossFireX support games on windowed mode? I play most of my games on borderless windowed mode because I don't need to turn v-sync on. But the only problem I'm having is CrossFireX does not support games that play on windowed mode.

If you actually tried playing on borderless windowed mode, you'll find that you won't need to worry about the vertical sync problems as the game will always be tied to the monitors refresh rate. There won't be any tearings whatsoever with windowed mode. Please let your team know about this! I thank you in advanced!

I also submitted a form about this when I updated to 14.9 just because I found out it wasn't implemented on that update. Hope it's not too much trouble!

so amd pays folks to do this stuff [I guess] but non of them know whats going on with there stuff so they expect you to buy there item and be the chump to see if it realy works and report back to them ???

so its like you pay them to test there stuff for them?? is it that these company's don't invest in R&D or is it that the cost is now passed on to you ??

like its now lets release a product that's really untried and not proven sell it to you and let you worry about it on weather it works and you suffer with it and report back to them and they may try to fix things on the fly and hope the quick fix solves that issue or when they see its not really going to they release REV 2.0 and drop support on the first one you got that still anit quite right ???

plus I thought amd had a thing at the bottom of the driver page to add a comment or report issues ?? so really nothing new here
