What happened to the XDR2 memory??? Is ATI waiting to make the move to the new memory in order to compete when Nvidia inevitably take their sweet time and trump these??

[citation][nom]jankeke[/nom]Apparently, the high-end 600 series will come out end 2012 or start 2013. Far too late for me.I am building a rig starting next year and I am getting the best there is at that time, so AMD it is. I'll be waiting for Ivy bridge though.[/citation]

Maybe youll come close to my 580! Good luck to you good sir.

[citation][nom]SpadeM[/nom]GDDR5 ... no rambus thank God for that![/citation]

Rambus is actually much better. Differential pairs > parallel data.

[citation][nom]speedo6[/nom]And dude ahead dont say you have a 6970 , you have a 6950 overclocked jesus , if i got a civic and boost it like a porche i dont say people i have a porche. And who's jealous now? I have a GT3, but prefer to drive my Evo X. Just as fast and better gas milage after all the mods I put in. Same as 6950, why pay for 6970 when you can get it for cheaper price and a bios change. Damn, you sure are intelligent, comparing a Porche 911 Carrera (6950 2gb) to a Porsche GT3 (6970). Same damn GPU, just slightly dumbed down for ignorant phules like yourself...[/citation]

1 What on Earth is a 'porche"?
2 Where can I get a '6950 overclocked Jesus"?

i rather like boobies with amd logo rather than a product like cpu/gpu with amd logo! 😀

cheer up amd fanboys! you got boobies with amd logo!!

like i need a better performance, when all the shitty games are console port. I yet to see any games that offer even more eye candy that can fully use my GTX570, so far its only BF3 and Crysis 1 with heavy mod.

Well, based on the specs I have seen: 7870 is the same as 6970 with higher frequencies. It means it should be slightly faster than 6970. This means that 7950 should be at least on par with 580, which means 7970 should be faster than your 580. Considering that rumors say that HIGH END 600 series comes no earlier than the end 0f 2012, AMD may have a single GPU card performance crown for about a year or so.

[citation][nom]de5_roy[/nom]afaik this is amd's first gpu design. amd has always underwhelmed with 'first releases'.[/citation]
Mid range (7850, 7870) are based on previous generation (6950 and 6970) with die shrink, so they are not "AMD's first GPUs." 7950 and 7970 are, but they only will be failures if they do not outperform 7850 and 7870. Considering that they have much beefier specs, they should.

and
I have a Hayabusa, but the lastest (2012 model) Kawasaki ZZR-1400 looks interesting.
I live in a same world here: the battle of two giants with almost equally good stuff.

I have now Radeon, but the previous was nVidia G-Force
Which way to go?
Depends..are you a fan? Be loyal!
Are you pracmtic? Make a wise decision!
Are you both? It complicates the matter

I just want ABS-brakes and also electric power
Go and get an IBM, erh..BMW K1300S

The Southerm Islands?
We just have wait for benchmarks, etc
Some wait for Gay-Force response..up until then...it's globbering time!

That was a lot of "not worth reading material". I see you like to brag about your vehicles. How does it feel to have spent thousands only to watch them depreciate faster than cheese molds?

"According to reports, both the HD 7970 and HD 7950 will be very long cards..."
I'm really surprised why AMD is trying to screw up their sales with such long cards. The last thing I need is a card that doesn't fit in my case.I've never seen any single gpu card from Nvidia that exceeds 10.5 inches. So why is AMD making them so long??

I love it, if NVIDIA made this announcement people would be wailing about the high price & high TDP.

It looks like this time AMD goes for performance. And all high performance cards tend to be long. Being first on 28nm should give AMD enough punch to get performance crown until Nvidia releases their 28nm high end GPUs. But for now, Nvidia should release only mid range 28nm GPUs.

[citation][nom]jtt283[/nom]It shouldn't take the wattage of a hair dryer to play games, even on excellent settings. I want to see 6970 performance on the power requirements of a 6850; 6850 performance on the requirements of a 6670. THOSE improvements would be nice. The card I have can play all my games maxed, so it isn't GPU muscle I need.[/citation]
"It shouldn't take the wattage of a hair dryer to play games" is the hair dryer stronger than the computer
"6850 performance on the requirements of a 6670" huh

and do you ant improvements of TDP and no improvements in performance
at least the TDP should be the same while having increased performance

i don't think they will, they may do like AMD and just rebrand older chips

AMD rebrands older high end chips into new mid range ones + shrink of process. However, 7950 and 7970 should be new upgrades if I am not mistaken.

probably uses them, and given cars can last 10-20 years if taken care of, why not pay a bit for luxury if you can afford it...

I'LL WAIT AN EXTRA 3 MONTHS FOR --NVDA MUCH IMPROVED VERSION ! WHY PAYTWICE ?
