doom 3 and hl 2 were overhyped and some pretty lofty goals made that never panned out, so it created a problem from both vavle and id. unfortunately it cost them alot of fafn fare becuase today, the games dont look or are as 'revolutionary' as they would have been if they had been reelased up to a year earlier.

now microsoft, on the other hand, has no one to compete against that it would make a differnce if they release ont ime or not, and they have a track record of delays. dropping winfs on longhorn is mistake imo, why odnt they just gut it and call it win xp se and then release the true longhorn when it is really ready lol.

i know i wont be paying for longhorn if its going to be stripped down. as far as xp 64bit goes, its a similar thing. i highly doubt the delays are purely coding driven, meaning that the transition is too difficult, that argument just doenst cut it. i really dont know what the real reason for the delay is, and id odubt anyone outside of microsoft does either.

Microsoft has one large competitor - time.

It's been awhile since their last big OS upgrade (namely Win XP). By Microsoft's past timelines, they should have had a new consumer OS out by Christmas of this year. If they drop WINFS they can make 2006 (maybe 2005), otherwise they are looking at 2007 or (more likely) 2008. Even though XP is a great OS, forcing consumers to a new environment to generate more revenue is what MS is best at!

I'm just your average habitual smiler =D

Itanium is a high end workstation platform, and it wasn't targeted for mainstream or desktop level
err in whos wet dreams? as far as i know Itanium is High end server platform only, mostly running datacenter server, lol high end workstation, who the hell can afford $10,000 USD per Dual CPU workstation for their goofy ass Cad designers eheh.

thats why i say just release an updated version of windows xp, which is waht sp2 has been all about. its a huge update for xp, adding many features and fine tuning. granted it doesnt gain ms revenue, but ti gives them more time for longhorn. they will however, get revenue on xp 64bit, so that should hold them till longhorn. i would rather see them wait till winfs was done, otherwise, there isnt much going for longhorn except avalon and a couple other cosmetic changes.

whats evne worse is if they release winfs as part of a service pack, i can just see the update problems now, you thought the problems wiht the sp2 update on xp was bad... or they will just try to suck more money out of the consumer and force every to pay to get it.
