You could try to use 2x4gb sticks and see if you can get a higher overclock, I've heard using more than 2 sticks leads to issues and is complicated/interferes while testing, but this is from what I've researched so far, of course i'd want the full 16gb since I paid for it lol.

Also I found the higher overclock the lower the ram is always better, for me my ram is 1600mhz at 1:4 ratio, i went to 1:3.33(<-- something like that) which is a step below 1600 which is 1333 but since i overclock with the FSB i get 1466mhz which is not much behind the original.

I also tried lowering it down a step further while rasing my overclock it 3.75GHz and it helped alot but I still failed Prime95 after a couple hours.

If i were you i'd return to stock, then take it step by step and everytime you raise the FSB by 5-10 run prime for 10-15min and if you pass keep raising it till you start to fail almost immediately, then I would start bumping the voltage a little by .010 till it starts passing longer and longer, also write down everything you do on paper so you can return to a certain setting and you dont get lost at what you did.

Im still new at overclocking but this is what i've been doing and its working so far :p

The systematic approach is how I got from 2.7(stock) to 3.4(OC) When I achieved 3.4, I had to undervolt it with a negative .075 offset to control temps with the TX3 cooler I was using.

Back then, I tested with more voltage and found 3.6, and a single voltage bump, reaching my personal heat limit of 55C with no signs of instability. I thought cooling was the only thing holding me back.

The new case allowed me to get a better cooler and I found that heat was not the only limiting factor.

are you being conservative? coz you should be able to get 4GHz easy, anything past that is a trick though (being an 840 user i can relate to you :p)

worked at it a bit, got a northbridge of 2800MHz as well as the hyper transport... havent stressed it yet
about to try again with new settings, will post if stable

Nice man yeah idk I should hit 4GHz easy but overtime I go up over 3.63 GHz I fail within minutes of prime I've tried a lot if things already.. if you could pm me and help me out that would be cool no one really has the same CPU as me.

what kind of volts are you using? dont be afraid to go into the high 1.4's... AMD reccomends a max of 1.55V anyways
make sure your setting your ram at 1333MHz or 1600MHz (depending on what your ram is rated for, there both available at the 250 base clock)

I set my ram at 1333 instead of 1600 so it can handle being overclocked, I also tried bumping to the 1.4+ voltage area and I still fail with prime in under 5min, maybe its my board since its a cheap one now, msi 870a g54, though im stable at 3.63GHz I just return to stock as its not much of an increase, I do have all my settings saved for the overclock but its a real pain in the ass to keep testing and trying out different things to overclock :(

Ok almost 2 hours into prime at 1.46vcore at 3.87GHz RAM at about 1536 something like that. I'm heading for a 6 hour stability test so ill post back if/when I fail but looks promising at the moment. sucks voltage is high but it fails with lower voltage.

but for future reference 1.55v for phenoms are safe right??

all of my reading has said that phenom IIs are okay up to 1.55v
but of course yo are always taking a chance

I have run a Phenom II x 4 925 and 965 Black Edition both at 1.53v on a 24/7 basis including Folding at Home which stresses the CPU heavily
just try not to go too much over 55C on your temps

Alright well just woke up to see worker #4 failed after 5 hours and 25min .... -_-
It was one of the rounding errors, is this still voltage related?

i've heard of people running em up around 1.7V, but i would never put that much into my chip TBH

depends on which Prime95 test you are running
the blend test is usually related to memory speed especially when just one worker fail
a freeze and shut down is usually related to voltage

Yeah lol idk about going that high people are crazy...but as of right now im 2 hours in prime blend test at 3.87GHz and 1.482vcore, I feel that the voltage is high for 3.8 but I found that when i fail its usually to low of voltage, think I can safely reach the 4ghz mark safely?

Ok cool right now temps hit 48c on full load and its pretty hot outside, late last night i was about 41c under load.

awesome temps
I am going to try for 4.2 ghz later with my 965BE
I had it almost stable at 21.5 x 205 at 1.53v
I figure if I take it up to 1.55v it might be able to do it
probably wont run i that way 24/7 but just want to see if doable

Not sure about room temp I wasn't home a lot but before I stopped it at 6 hours it was 42c and on idle 17c

are you using LLC? that could help lower the volts a bit
