Thanks, but I'm already using a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 (w/2 92mm fans)
If I ever get the urge to do a seriuous OC, I can always just buy a bigger case cut a hole in the side pannel of my exiting one. (Then go with a 120mm HSF.)
I run an AMD Phenom Be edition dual heat pipe 60mm with the fan rigged to go from 3000-5000 rpm
with my other fans in case (Scythe Ultra Kaze,Sickleflows,Antec Tricools)
my max temp with a 600mhz increase is under 55c in a 70f room
I am going to upgrade very soon to new cooler
probably one of the cooler masters
they have an inexpensive 80mm amd setup ($15) that I can add a Yate Cool 80mm to make a push pull setup
so will try that in a day or two
and my point is that the cooler you have is pretty decent
as long as you are under 60c in max temps with Prime95 you should push your OC

Don't tempt me. 😉
I do a decent amount of HD video processing so there are times when my CPU will get seriously loaded down for anywhere from 3 minutes to an hour.
I'd prefer to stay below 55c with prime95. Once I found out that I could still use my computer for other stuff when it was rendering, I sort of lost the "drive" to cut every possible millisecond from my render times.
The benefit shown in render times from another 500 Mhz just don't seem big enough when compared to the peace of mind that comes from cooler temps.
I'm also pulling an extra 30 watts from my wall (at idle) with this OC. For easy stuff like surfing the web, It's like leaving a light on in the house when not needed.
All of the "rational" stuff aside....I still might do it at some point.
trust me I know
was just battling a day or two ago to get to 3.6ghz with my PHIIx4 925 2.8
I know I can do it
but dont like running volts that high
I was at 1.55v and then said
why am I doing this for an extra 200mhz?! (normally run 3.4)
so backed down to 3.4 again
oh well the life of an OCer
what about this,
phenom 2 x6 1090t@3.9ghz @1.30v on 4 cores (2 disabled), ambient temp is 25'c, temp at prime95 load remains around 45'c at stock cooling in a cheap and badly designed case.
much better temps than mine
a deneb at 3.4 and I am hitting 57c in a 21c room
volts are high at 1.48 though
at stock speeds she runs chilly
but stock speeds are no fun LOL
"Is it better to do the right things for the wrong
reasons or the wrong thing for the right reasons?"
none of them is better.B)😛
finally
somebody got the answer
you are very smart
only doing the right thing for the right reasons is right
sorry to go off topic mod
back on topic
I have a chance at a 965BE
just need to sell my PHII x 4 925 Deneb C2
finally have a real OCing CPU I hope
ocing on a non-BE is a good learning experience but really need to have a BE

If you know how to overclock a locked CPU, an unlocked CPU is like wake up in the morning.
but not in my case,😀
as i can only get upto 13x nb at 1.35v,😱
so i need to try a combination of multi and fsb to hit nb above 3ghz
nb=260x12=3.12@1.375v
core=260x15=3.9@1.30v (on 4 cores to run it under 45'c during prime95 on stock cooler😉)
ram=260x5.33=1386,cl8,1t@1.5v
stock settings are
fsb 200, nb multi x10, cpu multi x16 (x18turbo), ram 1333 cl9 1t @1.5v (certified for 1600 cl9 2t @1.5v)
as you can see that i am using fsb to oc. But that doesnot matter much.😛
heee heee heee
ROFL LMFAO
we better be careful and stop going off topic or this will all go away
Mal in the PD thread I yelled at you
why would you not go with liquid cooling that TWK
the H-series water coolers like a H80 are under a 100 at Microcenter
and even Danger Den setups arent that bad anymore
you have a chance of hitting 5ghz stable with that TWK 42 and staying under
1.55v (volt limit on Denebs-dont make me source it)
as a tech and enthusiast you need to do this if you can afford
plus having a water cooled TWK 42 is awesome bragging rights but more importantly
a great learning experience
