Dear Mr SS,

I have investigated all options and decided that the likelihood of heavenly wrath is a considerable concern, as well as the other unmentionable.

Should you have other ideas regarding rapid wealth (not associated with AMD shares) then I would still be interested.

Sincerely,

R

P.S. Are these fake screenies likely the work of the devil??

Good find! Seemed like a PR ad for AMD to get people like me hopes up, and wallets ready.
The other one with the 1700 quid chip would be a great buy If I was in the server business, but I know nothing about servers.

I did get Shanghai and Deneb mixed up, and your right about Semptron and equivelents. Marketing, same with video cards too. I think they should market last years high end as mid-range, mid to low, and eliminate the new production of new low end sub-$100 graphics cards and CPUs. Thats another thread though.

From What I've read, I get the impression that the new Shanghai might be slightly faster than the Agena. And overclock better. I'll bet its around 20% faster, and on par with the Core 2 Q9550, and priced about the same, ($400 to $500 USD range) I was hoping for something that is in the same game as Intel, but I've been reading alot about the new i7, and it looks like its a generation ahead of Phenom. Did you guys get the new Holiday edition of Maximum PC in the mail today too? Maxiumum PC had a benchmark comparison between Phenom and i7. Good read, but there is a lot of other new articals on the web too.

Remember when the AMD DDR2 stuff came out? Both the AM2 and 939 4800x2 where benching the same, but the AM2 was priced higher. The FX-60 and FX-62 where basically the same, and the DDR vs DDR2 wasn't much of a gain either. Right now, if they released the new chip, and it was, say, 30% faster than the top shelf AMD 9950, its still at least 20% slower than than the new $1000 Intel i7-965 extreme. And thats before overclocking, "turbo" mode, and tri channel DDR3. In a few weeks we'll read the reviews and see....

In Vancouver BC money grows on trees. Its legal there too. You just can't get caught smuggling it over the border.....

I take my adopted town's newspaper with a shake of salt. Used to use it in the cat's box before our 18 year old lump of fur died. The Tech Monday section just doesn't have as much news at it used to (the internet killed the newspaper source). Mostly read it on Friday to get movie reviews, because I love spoilers and their critic (who usually hates SF and fantasy but loves depressing indie flicks) doesn't know how to review a movie without giving away 2/3 of the plot.

Yes, it will be server stuff only until Deneb arrives in January. The way the economy's going, AMD might make more money off of Deneb, Propus, Heka and Rana on the desktop than Shanghai in servers. Us fans still got to upgrade, even though we can't always afford it, but corporations can wait. If Intel says they'll be hit by the downturn, you can be sure AMD will be hit twice as hard (sad to say).

I think you need to look at CPUZ more on AMD processsors. I have a 9950 Phenom and it shows MMX.... you fail
