^Well always check ABC.com. They might post the new episodes there. Dr. Cox still rules.

As for TC, haven't seen him as of late. Nor have I seen him on Steam for a long time either.

Meh the world has seen worse. I feel bad for the Chinese who will lose a lot of jobs when some companies over here cut production/close down. Already a few thousand factories went up leaving hundreds of thousands jobless. People here say "Well they have Billions of people". But they forget that thats still hundreds of thousands of people who will have to scrape for food and a roof over their head.

But all in all this is a interesting start to a new year.

BTW, what do you think of Phenom II?

^ AMD are getting closer to Core 2 Quads.. I think it won 1 out of 10 tests..

I feel that its a lot better than the origional ( to be honest it couldnt get any of a worse release could it)

And with Intel releasing the I7 before Christmas, it seems that AMD will always be third best, with core 2 following behind...

Imagine what theyre gonna do when i core really gets going... looks like quad cores gonna be around for some time...

AMD needs a great product and excellent timing.. The timing is not good right now to charge a premium for top technology especially when current processors easily cope with current applications, if and when they are written ( games that is ). im still playing on my 7800gtx 256 with Left4Dead...

Im more impressed with a Samsung NC10 laptop running a Atom processor with Windows XP..

just got one for a m8 of mine cost me 268 plus tax and delivery and its the dogs...

very impressive... comes with a case too, got a web cam and a sd camera slot. 1gb of ram and a 120gb hard disk all with a 10inch screen...

amazing i recon the next few years we will be going portable with email and office on the move netbooks as apposed to the large lumps were used to be having... who cares about games on pcs for much longer - we will all be on the xbox or wii

You are so wrong there. MMO's rule on the PC and if companies like EA get their heads together and don't go for draconian DRM, then single player games will survive on the PC.

If PC gaming died, or was only MMO, then the P2 I get this month might be my last CPU upgrade until it's as obsolete as a P4 based Celeron is today.

I just downloaded first two episodes of Scrubs over here in Blighty. I never wait until E4 gets them. they take forever sometimes.

LOL so true.
What would also help is if developers were all a bit more like Valve. Yes we would wait forever for games to come out but they would be so well optimised that you don't have to upgrade to the latest most expensive graphics card everytime a new game comes out. I hate that I bought a 3870 about the same time as you got your 3870X2 and now it struggles to run anything 1280x1024 and a few months later ATI released a card with quadrouple the power of a 3870 for the same damn price.

P.s mine died the other day just like yours did.

Hmm, that could explain why I sometimes get a "RAID Failure" message popping up when I have a lot of stuff accessing the drives... Sorta freaked me the first time since I hadn't done a backup for quite some time. Now I gots dat ol' backup-time religion and do it monthly :)

I haven't been real happy with my EVGA 680i board, plus their driver download page is a huge PITA and slow to access. Probably will go back to Asus or Intel on my next build.

I saw him recently over on Ex See Pee Youse D'oh-T Comb (sorry, but Tom's asterisks that name - guess they're still smarting over JJ leaving). Maybe TC got tired of trying to keep up with JDJ's post rate :)

I had the EVGA board,, flashed the bios and had no problems after that..

Have you applied the latest bios.. it does help and sorts problems... even gives you quad core support..

But MMO's do not need a really fast processor or high end graphics.. MMO's really depend on broadband speed to make it happen...

WOW and Age of Conan even work on intels 3100 graphics..

I feel that not many people need the fastest graphic card ( the latest has nearly 2GB of Video ram from Nvidia ) - where next 4GB video cards at the end of the year...

Games are hardly being produced now and as the econimic climates hit... Game cost to develope are very very expensive... I just hope pc games have a future, but to me it seems bleek.. I hope im proved wrong.. But in this econimic situation a XBOX now costs £169 for the hard disk version and games are freely and a taste for all games types.

Time will tell...

Uh......... AoC cannot "work" with GMA 3100. You can install it maybe, but good luck playing it. Ill be waiting for some benches/numbers on that one. Also try doing a instance/raid in WoW on GMA 3100 at a resolution higher than 800x600.

MMO's need alot more than "broadband" to run good, the last MMO you played must have been Ultima before the graphics revamp. The most important things on an MMO are RAM and CPU, with AoC being the exception needing a decent video card, EQ2 as well. EQ2 supports quad cores, and I know from personal experience that the game eats 100% of one core constantly and 10-35% of the other 3. My wifes old PC with 2GB of RAM, a nvidia 8600gt, and a AMD 5400+ ran EQ2 like ****, she could barely raid. But it got 60fps constant in WoW.

I always check ABC.net.au, they normally have cool stuff for download that doesn't count towards my broadband quota... like catalyst...

MMOs are kinda like Sims for casual gamers who can't spend much money on hardware... they have to work on most hardware within a reasonable range...

I have more reason to hate the release of the 3870x2.

The 4850 that came out last June was the same price as your card for twice the performance. That 4850 was half the cost of my card at equal the performance without any Crossfire issues. I feel that a $450 dual GPU card should be trouble free the first two years of warranty and at least get good Crossfire support in all games out at the time of release.

That's why I won't buy anything more than a 4830 until fall if I have to get a new card. I'm waiting for their next refresh. I guess they don't have enough engineers to get the GPU's out at the time of their CPU launch.

I don't want to buy a 4870 1 gig and have a $300 card in June be twice the power. I'm not that wealthy.

It must be the resistors mentioned as defective on a significant number of cards manufactured by PowerColor, but sold by other companies. I do miss "built by ATI" cards. I use to buy then exclusively since I went for All in Wonders, but those AGP days are long gone.

If mine still crashes, then I can get a 4830 and hold off till fall on the 1920 x 1080 Acer monitor. I haven't heard reports of the same issues in the 4xxx series and my wife's 3650 is chugging along fine in LOTRO under XP.

It's just odd that it would be a blank screen while still in LOTRO. My wife would see my character auto attacking and I'd hear the music and all, but I'd have to either go into Task Manager and close the game, then restart, or I'd have to restart the PC. The last couple of times, it wouldn't display anything after the Windows load screen, like it couldn't handle 3D anymore.

I have it ready to reinstall, but I'll do that tomorrow night. Then maybe I'll play the Witcher all night and see how it works there. All I want is the kind of stability we used to see with both ATI and Nvidia cards, with only occasional driver issues. Now, there are major manufacturing defects showing up with both companies.

"Made in China"= "We don't care about our customers or product quality just so long as we can get cheap labor slaving away in barracks far from their homes and families, so we can make even more profits".

If China was like the U.S. in the late 40's, early '50's, with new tract homes and apartments where Chinese workers could live with their families in a vibrant community near the factories, I'd not consider it mercantilism. Since they live far from their families like the illegal immigrant men from Mexico in the U.S., then I'd have greater respect for China, but the government and elites are predatory towards their own people and towards us.

Read "Factory Girls" about the lives of Chinese workers. I feel sorry for them and pray that things improve for their kids and grandkids.

I heard about that defective resistor problem but I don't believe thats whats wrong with mine. Just went to boot up the pc one day and all I got on screen was the details of the card and its bios and EZ flash saying I needed to update the bios and then checking for a floppy or cd on a loop. So I figured it had been corrupted somehow (worked fine the night before) so tried to flash it. But because this was happening before post it just wouldn't pay attention to any cd or floppy I put in. So now got my trusty old x300 in there. Its never failed me once that card.

I was gutted when the 4000 series came out so soon after getting it. Also stock was low at the time in the UK so overpayed to top it off.

I see a lot about how terrible the conditions are over there in the factories on documentaries. I also have a good friend of mine from Beijing who imigrated who tells me what its like over there. It makes you think that they work for so little but yet are so grateful for and then you have ppl like my girlfriends mum (girlfriend not like her at all) who is on benefits because she can't be bothered to work so is given a house for free and everything is paid for by the government and anything she gets goes on booze. Girlfriend thinks she's an embaressment.

The big American firms from Dell to Nike' have been taking advantage of Asian countries for ages...

America was the only country to "ignore" the Kyoto agreement...

Everyone needs to actually sit down and think the long term effect on people and animals what idustrial polution has done to the modern age...

We all hear about recycling ect ect and what can be done to reduce carbon emmissions.. But at the end of the day a lot more can be done...

I to pick my daughter up from school the other day and there must of been atleast a 150 pcs in various classes ( some with crts ) still switched on with Windows XP screen saver running...

How on earth is that going to teach kids to safe resources when the schools are not doing their bit.

let alone how people work in Asian countries to supply us with a video card for $60....

The best bit is they get paid pennies a day whilst we get charged hundreds for it...

The technological long term effects will get us all, a Windows 98 pc will still browse the web, play games and type letters if we still let it...

Hey at this rate we're all gonna die. I'm just glad one more person agrees on that... we only have one Earth, soon it will full up with junk from our consumerist society. If people must buy and sell as much as they can to stimulate an economy, alot of stuff will be wastefully bought. People are using the Earth as like a magic endless waste pit and an endless mineral and forset mine... right now, we are dumping waste into the rivers, then eating the produce that it makes... the seafood is now heavily infested with heavy metals and stuff.

Western countries focus on the most important things on their mind...

Now all that needs to happen is for me to get elected as president... or someone from Greenpeace...

The Earth is one great big chemistry set that became aware of it's self. After we're gone something else with eventually take the reins and mess the earth up again.

Those self aware computers all of a sudden become a good option, we can call them child.

I think we'll reach a level where our tech doesn't advance as quickly, products are recycled more efficiently through nanotechnology and we move past consumer society while still having private ownership and innovation.

We have plenty of room to fill the earth up with junk. What are future archeologists going to do after the next asteroid impact? They need to recreate our culture through our artifacts. One classic SF novel semi-seriously has archeologists thinking a McDonalds was part of an ancient temple complex.

David Brin's Uplift series imagines Galactic cultures using the deep chasms of planetary oceans for waste disposal. Drop a starship in a trench and it sinks down to be slowly broken down and absorbed into the planet by being subducted into the crust.

Don't you mean PM of Australia? I guess you could be president of the Aussie Senate, but if you immigrated here, you couldn't be President of the U.S. One has to be born here. Otherwise, Arnold would have a chance at the Republican nomination.

the only way to cut carbon emissions, is to cut the world population by half

and why is the post button on toms changed to abschicken and preview to vorschau

Isn't that what AMD is doing with the P2?? :) I mean, recycling the P1 already and not advancing as quickly...

Far be it from me to one-up those intelligent aliens, but wouldn't it just be more efficient to dump your used saucers into the nearest star? I mean, why bother with melting them at the planetary core when you can vaporize them in a stellar core? Of course, you'll have to wait some billions of years for the star to get through the white dwarf stage before you could reclaim the recycled material, but if you're an interstellar culture, presumably you have learned a bit of patience or else have warp drive :).

LOL, but if they had nanotechnology, they could send billions of micro-insects out to convert all i7's to Phenom 2's and all Core 2 Quads to B2 Phenom. That would really make the earth stand still!

They're ecologists. Planets are only settled for x number of eons, then they lie fallow. All evidence of the prior civilization has to be dumped into the depths of trenches so they get subducted back into the mantle.

Yes, dumping stuff into a star works better, but if you don't want to pay for the transportation costs....
