Hello all,
I need help in deciding between some graphics cards. I have a high end triple monitor gaming system but cant decide what gpu to run. Here are my system specs...

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LsBBYJ

I was running 2 gtx 970's in sli for a couple of months but sent them back because I was not happy with the performance I was getting. I play most games at 6056x1080 (bezel correction) and at that resolution I could not max out most games that I wanted to play. I usually had to turn down AA or run the game at med/high instead of ultra. Games would stutter and not play well without turning down settings. Im guessing because of me hitting the vram ceiling.

I need your help in deciding what gpu to get. I am currently without a gpu and thus cant play games. With the R9 295x2 being only $599 right now should I go ahead and pick one of those up or should I hold out until June for the R9 390x, or wait for the Titan X (although that is a bit out of my price range).

I just want the best performance at this resolution for the money.

Thanks!!!!

Waiting won't hurt you - if anything the price of the R9 295X will go down! If the 300 series turn out to be no good, go with the 295X then, you'll be able to make an informed decision with all the stats available.

You'll be in a painful place if you drop a load of money on a 295X, and the 390x is far better at not much more cost.

In terms of gaming performance, the Titan X performs ever-so-slightly worse than GTX970 SLi (about 5% based on benchmarks I've seen) but then the Titan X is going to be like the Titan black was - a consumer grade Quadro card.

Saving the bad news for the end, you won't get better performance out of an R9 295x than you had with your SLi GTX970s. The R9 295X is a single-card crossfire R9 290X, and as the GTX970 is more powerful than an R9 290x, 2 GTX970s (SLi) are going to be more powerful than 2 R9 290Xs (R9 295X).
You would have been better off with what you had.

The Titan X will only be a little more powerful than the 980 for twice the price, so if 2x 970s didn't do it then it's not a good idea. I'd wait for the next gen because it doesn't sound like you're going to get what you want in budget right now. Maybe that means the 390x, but I obviously can't see the future.

Yeah, I am in kind of a bad place. With the r9 390x still 3 month away and the Titan X out of my price range it leaves me with few options. I really wish that AMD would push up the date on releasing the 390x because Nvidia is absolutely walking all over them right now. I'm neither an AMD fanboy nor a Nvidia fanboy, I am simply a fan of whoever gives me the best performance/dollar period.

The 295X is your best bet considering price and performance over your prior SLI setup.

As a previous poster mentioned the 390X will undoubtedly be priced near a 295X's current price resulting in a crossfire price around $1,200 plus for two 390Xs.

Most reviews that I have seen indicate that crossfire performs better SLI so the modest performance drop between a 290X and 970 could be completely erased when the 290X is crossfired.

Additionally, AMD has better drivers for multi screen setups such as yours.

I am sure you will be pleased with the 295X. At least, until you see the performance of a crossfire setup for the 390X. When that happens just look at the price to get that performance and it should ease your envy just a bit.

I'm not entirely sure what you've been reading, as everything I've read and/or watched has always pointed to SLi being more powerful than crossfire, albeit whilst being more restrictive (same GPUs required instead of just being from the same series).
And AMD eyefinity setups also still have micro-stuttering issues due to it's drivers, whereas Nvidia surround setups have been stutter free for at least two years now.

When it comes to multiple card setups, Nvidia are leagues ahead.

As for OP, looks like you're faced with spending big on an R9 295X and gaming now, or endure the long wait until the 300 series are released and making your decision then. Or you could try and get an R9 295X now and sell on if the top 300 series turns out to be better, but I expect there will be quite a few R9 295Xs up for sale then 😉

the 295x2 is a great card and will be very good if you wait get the 390x, honestly the titan x is gonna fail like the other 2 ones

Thanks everyone for the help. Looks like I may try to stick it out til the 390x comes out. Like it was pointed out, the prices will only continue to drop on the 295x. I may in the meantime try to find a very cheap gpu that will allow me to at least play games on one of my 1080p screens.

Any suggestions on a cheap gpu to "hold me over" til the gpu I want comes out? I know I won't be happy with gaming on a single 24" monitor after playing on 3 but I can make it work for a short time.
