Hopefully, they price it right and make it a "can't miss" purchase in it's price range. AMD needs that desperately, their stock has been tanking ever since the Fury X was released.

Quotes:
"there aren’t any performance benefits for Fury cards versus 15.15. You’ll see some pretty charts below but they’re mostly window dressing since performance parity was a foregone conclusion here."

"At this point you may be wondering why we didn’t actually use the 15.7 drivers for the benchmarks in this review. Unfortunately, they weren’t stable in our system. There were random system lock-ups, driver crashes and even a few freezes during the Windows 8.1 startup sequence."

I think OEMs didn't like the idea of AMD not giving them custom reference design for the card, since it appears to be *very* hard to cool and to get the cooling right because of HBM placing.

All in all, a good showing. I really wanted to see them benchmarked with the new drivers, but oh well. I guess when Win10 comes out officially they'll use the new drivers by then. And that should be in a couple of days (for official MS release) so benchies should come in a week or so from that date.

In regards to the temps... Man, that card is hot. It reminds me of the 4850 with the single slot design. Let's hope it doesn't throttle too much in long gaming sessions.

I'm still debating on if it's the right price for the card, but at first glance, it is.

Cheers!

EDIT: Gremmer!

It wouldn't make sense if they're angry because of rebrands. Doing a rebrand is actually cheaper for OEMs than creating a card AIB from scratch or using the same AIB, but putting new circuitry for the new GPU. If the rebrands is related to the reason, it might be for something very specific of the process AMD conducted with the OEMs. What I can imagine, is that AMD did not help them clean the previous product line as OEMs wanted or the cost of each rebranded GPU did not go down either. In short, I think we would need to get more information in regards to why OEMs are mad. Seems like an interesting "gossip" topic of sorts, haha.

And Fury X could not go under that price, I'd say. I really don't have the cost for AMD per Fury X, but I'm willing to bet they're cutting it close to cost.

Cheers!

OEM probably want AMD come up with new chip instead of rebrand. Nvidia 980/970 clearly shows that despite the performance are not really that faster than their previous flagship there were demand for it simply the card is new. Nvidia even ablecto push amd market share to new low. So being AIB selling AMD cards they probably not like that.

And talking about Fiji. I have to hand it to Asus. The Fury Strix is an amazing card: custom AIB that lowers power consumption by 40W without losing performance. That is quite an achievement. Sapphire on it's part, was the quietest of them all at load; not the coolest, but still under the 980TI in temps. Even quieter than the WC Fury X. That's bonkers, haha. There's still the "golden sample" rule at play, but man, it's still impressive.

So, going back to the "OEMs be mad at AMD", I think that is the reason. They did not want to spend extra cash on developing cooling solutions, plus Fiji yields might be commanding a premium from AMD. Who knows? Maybe AMD is asking more than we actually know per Fiji GPU to OEMs and telling them to keep product cost low. Although, Asus and Sapphire did put amazing products and hat off to them.

Cheers!

OEMs had a hard time selling 200-series and finally had to return cards massively, generating a strong channel problem. AMD answer, rebranding the cards and returning them to OEMs, was going to make them angry, not a surprise here!

About Fury, well, it is far from where AMD promised it would be, again no surprise than most OEMs are rejecting the cards. As I said before launch (in the deleted thread) Fury is not a game changer.

That doesn't really matter from AMD's perspective. They're buying known good die from SKHynix.
