Quite agree, GPU prices are completely unrealistic.
I had a GTX780ti.. cost ~£400, upgraded to a GTX1080ti in 2018.. cost ~£700. Now ready for another upgrade, but won't pay more than ~£700.. decidedly mid-range GPU territory nomadays. Will wait until £700 gets good 4K performance. Hope Intel competition will force NVIDIA and AMD prices down but not sure they'll stay the course.

And that "mid-range" GPU will outperform the older flagship models for the same price.
