AMD RoadMap vs intel RoadMap

.... AMD is going to launch an even faster Athlon soon.

.... intel is going to launch an even slower PIV soon.

.... Different strategies I guess.

LOL! How right you are. I can't remember Intel ever releasing a new chip that was slower than existing ones. Gotta plug those holes.

They do it all the time, but they call it Celeron! I wonder if they will have a P4 based Celeron any time soon?

.... Actually, intel did this before, they paperlaunched PIII 1Ghz, then launched the 3 slower grades later.

.... Even now, 10 months later, the PIII 933 is scarce, PIII 1Ghz even more so.

.... For most apps., PIV IS the Celeron, but at 10 times the price, except Celeron is more powerful per Mhz.

With Pentium 4 front bus speed up to 400Mhz, there should be no excuse for Intel to keep the Celeron's at 66Mhz

Pentium 4 Celeron is definitely possible. But in order to cut down the system cost to "celeron level" Intel will at best give it a 133Mhz FSB NOT quad pumped and pairing it with PC133 sdram platform. Also, due to its inherently large die, Intel might trim its cache all the way to 64k and do other cripplings who-knows-what.

Yeah basically a Duron should kick its ass just like how it did it with the Celerons

I can't imagine Intel releasing a Celeron version of the Pentium 4. The Pentium 4 is hardly better than a AMD Duron and a lower performing version would be ridiculous. Looks like AMD is poised to recapture the market segment they invented with the K6.
