because board partner need sometime to actually build their custom PCB (and decide which cooler to use) and validate them. after that they still need to manufacturer them in certain volume before they start selling them. from the MSI rep words it seems they just got the reference board from AMD recently. right now we have something like 1 month+ before official RX Vega launch. remember 290X? back then AMD really keep it tight that board partner did not get their access to the reference design until very close to launch. custom 290X with better cooler did not come out until 3 months after that.

Either Corsair could consider higher quality materials or high-end systems could consider a move to higher voltage (24V or 48V). 400W is peanuts in the R/C world and many other today's electr(on)ic applications.

I remember that. Lol. The reference card looked like a VHS casette sitting on the table. I was building my 3770k rig and spinning the little squirrel cage at one end of the card. I kept thinking this is gonna get hot.. . and it did.

Vega Frontier first look...

They look at the ~$1,200 air-cooled version.

Not much gaming info here (of course) as this not a gaming card. Apparently it is faster than a 1080 and close to a 1080Ti (but slower) in games.

RX Vega (intended for gaming) is supposed to be 'a bit quicker' than the Frontier edition in games. Time will tell...

RX Vega is supposed to be fast than Frontier for Gaming. I can't wait, but you might have to camp out on you computer clicking the refresh button, so you don't miss the 15 min. windows to get an order through at launch! LOL

performance wise i think both card should be very close so Vega FE should give us the hint where RX Vega will land. also Vega FE is confirmed to have "gaming" driver for it. so in the end the performance difference between RX Vega and Vega FE in games probably just down to gpu clock.

I only say that, because Raja Kaduri said that when asked specifically about it. But you are probably right.

it is some of the details that i got from anandtech. they have no card to review but they still talk few things about the release like the state of driver and such. also anandtech pointing out something interesting on how AMD rated the core clock on Vega.

This site is reporting something dodgy going on with the reported an estimated GPU clock speeds...

1600mhz only in short bursts !

"According to AMD, "typical" is 1.382 MHz"

Was waiting for something like this, Is it time for a tsunami of outrage ?

let us know what yis think:

Edit:
Here's a guy on YT live Benching it does not sound good so far, listening a few minutes...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuFG7pw_k50

His GPU is throttling for sure.. downclocking an jumping back up in bursts it's up an down it's all over the place..
Going down as far as 800 or so 1300 and up again to 1600 so looks like defo not a constant 1600mhz...
Jay

That would explain why the scores were like a 1080 from videocardz.com.

Yeah it's throttling for sure in Gaming mode.. down as far as 800 an back up ...

Edit ah this guy's all over the shop he has in running now at 1650 stable... increased the fan speed an now it's solid.. He also had no HBCC on so he getting better FPS already an HBCC is still off !! lol..

There's some hope anyway !

We should have loads of bench's tomorrow :) at last !

Wow, that's great news, I was almost disappointed! WOOHOO!

I guess if AMD is under great pressure and making a hurried launch, the game driver could have "a few" issues too. And things will be better in a month the gaming Vega debuts for real.

Anyway, nobody benchmarked it for how many MH/s we get?

They did yeah that guy on YT did, it's getting 33mhs (brutal right) but claymores miner needs to be updated (so someone said in comments) to take advantage of the architecture.. but yeah pretty bad straight off the bat for mining nearly same as polaris right !

This is ridiculous by the way.. having to get my glimpse at a first review from some idiot who doesn't know if HBCC is on a or off.. also had the card in professional mode for over an hour doing bench's and couldn't get it to run at a solid 1650...

Eventually he got it to run at 1650 by turning fan up to max in (it was glitchie as well).. but hear you wanna hear the noise of the thing when they moved the ph over to it.. an it was running pretty hot.. an still throttling the odd time in his games I'm sure I saw number dropping on GPU when he was running witcher at the end.... it's all their in the video guy's anyway.. posted above.

First impressions are not too good... it maybe better with a much better cooling solution and a quiet fan !
It look's like they squeezing every ounce of power/speed already not much room for OC at all...

Looks like the drivers need lot of work as well the slider for the fan speed wouldn't work on first attempt had to try it couple of times to get it to work just looked buggy.

Were giving it all she's got captain an she cannot take much more of this !

AMD has shown us working Vega since december last year. it has been 6 months+ since then they still have issues with optimizing drivers? something does not add up here. about mining i heard they got 33MH/s.

give the guy some slack. usually when true reviewer got review sample from AMD or nvidia they got review guide explaining certain things especially for new stuff that are not available in previous gen product such as HBCC. right now even if some reputable side like anandtech got the card they probably will not going to know much about it unless they reach AMD for direct explanation. from what we know AMD said HBCC should work automatically in games. if that's the case then there most likely no toggle to turn HBCC on or off so we will not going to know when HBCC being enabled when running games. in AMD early demo they just turn HBCC on and off from driver level to show the immediate effect of HBCC (which is to prevent performance issue from happening when the game try to use more VRAM than the card can provide).

that's for FE. we don't know if AMD will come up with water cooled reference with RX Vega. though it is still hard to swallow for the water cooled version are $400 more expensive just for the AIO even if the product is meant for prosumer.

Ah yeah I know fair play to him he did his best.. but lt would of been great if AMD had of sent even one out to an experienced reviewer is what I'm saying.. Sorry for being bit harsh their.. "some idiot" could I get away with saying it's a figure of speech lol...

@renz
My sentiments exactly they had loads of time to work on drivers and software hell it's a year late whats up with that.. I would of thought the drivers be polished to bits by now..
