AMD which CPU to Overclock

I was wondering....what is the best AMD cup to overclock? I know that the opterons are more stable at higher clock speeds, that what makes them opterons not Athlons. But what non-opteron is great for overclocking, kind of like the Pentium 805 D. I've always been and AMD guy and would like to cranck up and Athlon 64. Thanks for the advice!!!

what socket?

the 3800+ is a great chip to OC. u can get it running at 2.8 with all the right kit.

AMD 3800+ (AM2)
eVGA 7900GT
Patriot eXtreme 1 GB pc 6400 (1 x1024mb)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320Gb

I could just upgrade my video card to 7900GT and CPU, but what CPU (939) would also be good to overclock 3800+???? My current 3500+ is at 2.6 GHz and is super stable. I would like to hit 2.8-3.0. Thanks

the 939s will hit 2.8. just get decent cooling. a 939 3800+ is dirty cheap now.

I have a thermaltake venus 12, its a small leaf blower :') But it cools extremly well, especially with artic cooler. Thanks

Some steppings of the Athlon 64 3700+ (SanDiego 939) are reported to achieve over 3.1GHz on air cooling.

I just got an Athlon 64 3700+ (KACAE 0605APAW) from newegg.com for a new system I am building. (price for ADAFX55BNBOX = $104.00 when I bought it, now $99.00; the BN is the good version)

I have read on other forums about the KACAE stepping which indicate that it does well overclocking (sometimes reaching 3.2GHz) on standard voltage and air cooling.

Some posts mention a "cold bug"; meaning that it does not do any better with cooling methods that are better than air cooling.

I hope to have the my system together in a couple of days. I'm waiting on a couple of parts.
