This is getting annoying all these great cards yet none that has been able to max crysis out at the highest setting it this is ridiculous what did they make that game with??? human blood?????

Interesting read...

[citation][nom]lowguppy[/nom]"Nearly 5 teraflops" is misleading and inaccurate, you guys know this. It's 4.3, far from "Nearly 5" and two total 8.6, which would be a stretch to call "nearly 9" let alone "nearly 10". Would you really call anything that reaches 86% of its target "nearly" there? A single 5870 1gb offers around 86% of the performance, does that make it nearly the same?[/citation]

It's not far from 10.... For one a 5870 is 2.72 Teraflops at 850mhz where as the 5890 is undeclocked 125mhz for power reasons. You could easily clock it up and be beyond 10 TF.

See this is why AMD is the current King of Graphics. Forget NVIDIA until they can beat AMD. If my memory serves right that's what 1600 or 3200 stream processors on a graphics card? Or just a fancy way of saying parraral SIMD ops per clock cycle. But yeah 5 teraflops means hardware Radiosity is doable today.

So what, a bit over 56 of these and you'd have the same power as China's newest super computer? does that sound about right? Only $34k, wonder how many millions the Chinese paid for theirs!

Ever since 3DFX went belly up (and that was sad) I have gone for ATI cards and stuck with them.Every single one of them worked and I've had about a dozen ATI cards.I did try out a Nvidia card (TNT 2) just once that worked (well kinda worked I was a little disappointed it had really butt ugly colors and got a superior 3DFX Voodoo 3 card instead).Later I did try some nVidia cards on 3 other occasions.I couldn't even get a screen on them so I basically gave up on nVidia.Maybe I just got 3 bad nVidia cards which I took back for refund but not once have I had a bad ATI card.
Anyway glad to see ATI back on the top with the 5970.

yes..........

was worried when ati had problem containing this monster to be below 300w
using 2 5870's. thought they would go a little underhanded. They sure surprised everyone with the overclocking headroom. Truly brilliant.

Awesome, after they can start reliably churning out 40nm gpu cores the prices should come down. Not to mention when nVidia finally release some competition.

I would like to see 5850's and 5870's availalbe for sale. I'd have bought one already if there wasn't such a shortage. I'm not paying $50 over MSRP 2 months after release. That's ridiculous.

I call this Video Card,.. The REDEEMER!
Sure is, it brought ATi to the top of the top!

Imagine two of these on a CM Storm Sniper case, equipped
with an i7 975 procie oc'ed @ 4.0Ghz cooled by
Scythe's Mugen 2 with 2 Gelid Wing UV 120mm Nanoflux Bearing
fan on an XFX X58 mobo with 3x3GB Corsair Dominators @ 2000mhz
and 2x300GB WD VelociRaptor @ RAID 0 and Corsair HX series
1000 watt PSU.

...Sounds like a good project to build eh?.. :)

First of all, the power consumption ratio to performance is off the scale.. AMD is notorious for doing this with their processor line. As others have said, to ultiize the top notch performance you need to balance this with TOP NOTCH monitors and system equipment, so this is not for the limited budget general consumer, by any means, even enthusiasts can't be that enthusiastic about the pricetag unless they take home (after taxes) $80k+ a year in salary. Those people seldom tend to be tech geeks, more likely to put money into a muscle car than a muscle PC. Probably in 2 years this technology will utilize less than 1/2 the power consumption and be 1/2 the size (most likely less than 1/2 the price as well). Amd's resellers have trouble liquidating the 3xxx & 4xxx series so they're reluctant to buy into the 5xxx series hype (in large quantities) and that's why graphics card prices are as high as they are. The justification for these ultra resolutions-cards are for BIG monitors or multi monitor support. Right now that's a very low quantitiy micro niche and far from mainstream.

Yep... I hope that situation is not so bad. I hope to see cheaper ATI cards in next summer, and any ferni problems would make it less likely. I like these new ATI cards, but we need competition, so that the situation would stay this good allso in the future. But, yeah. Ferni is bigger, so any problems with 40nm production is even worse to them than to ATI. Maybe ATI saves Nvidia by producing good ferni cards in their Clobal founderies factory ;-)
