Can a creature with Protection from Artifacts be blocked by an equipped
creature? If the increase in power from the equipment is the only
reason the blocked creature would die, does it still go to the graveyard?

For the sake of discussion, lets assume:

Needlebug 4 Artifact Creature - Insect
Protection from artifacts 2/2
You may play Needlebug any time you could play an instant.

is being blocked by

Suntail hawk W Creature - Bird
Flying 1/1

equipped with

Bonesplitter 1 Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +2/+0.
Equip 1

If the blocking creature is not an artifact creature, then sure. Protection
from artifacts includes "can't be blocked by _artifact_ creatures"; it doesn't
include "can't be blocked by creatures _touching an artifact in some way_".

Protection-from stops four things: Damage; Enchanting/Equipping; Blocking;
and Targetting. If none of these are what is being done to the creature,
then protection-from doesn't help against it. In this case, the damage is
FROM the creature. It is not "partly from the creature and partly from the
equipment on it"; if the equipment gives the creature +3/+0, that raises the
CREATURE'S power by 3. It does not put a separate "power pool of 3" next to
the creature's power or create a "power of the equipment on the creature".

The Hawk can block the Needlebug perfectly well, because the _Hawk_ is
not an _artifact creature_. The Hawk will deal 3 damage to the Needlebug, and
the Needlebug will deal 2 damage to the Hawk; both will die. The damage from
the Hawk is NOT damage from an artifact source, because the Hawk is not an
artifact. The Hawk's power is bigger than normal, because of an artifact,
but that just means the _Hawk's power_ is bigger than normal; it does not
mean that part of the power involved is "the equipment's power".

Yes, it can be blocked. The equipped creature is still of the same
type and color.
Yes, it goes to the graveyard because the damage isn't dealt by the
equipment but by the creature.
