I read in some posts here and elsewhere that NEO HE550 PSU has some compatibility issues with some Asus Motherboards.

My motherboard is the Asus P5B-E, could there be any compatibility issues with the NEO HE550?

I read the reviews at Newegg and I am a bit scared to buy this now. what if I get an old version? I think I would just play it safe and avoid this since I have an Asus mb.

Issues with the Antec NeoHE PSUs were resolved in February 2005.

I believe that the issues with this PSU were rectified with a BIOS upgrade from Asus.

Just got a Neo HE550 today, plugged it into my P5B Deluxe WiFi/AP, and it goes on-off-on-off-on-off, until I switch it off.

The PSU & Mobo are supposedly brand new. Got them from Frys and Newegg, respectively.

The solution is to update your BIOS? How do they expect me to do that without power to my mobo? What kind of solution is that?

The issues are NOT resolved. :x I never tried any BIOS updates or anything, but a NEOHE 550 would not even power anything on connected to an Asus P series mobo and an A series. It worked fine in a K series! No joke. I decided not to deal with it and just got a Thermaltake Toughpower... :)

Tried switching on with a screwdriver instead of the power switch and still have the same power cycling problem. The only thing's I've got in the case are the PSU, P5B Deluxe MoBo, CPU & RAM, no USB or firewire or anything connected.

I connected my system to the PSU in my old computer and it didn't have this cycling power problem.

Antec won't RMA, they told me I had to try updating the BIOS first. But that's not an option now because I don't have a video card. I'm waiting for a DirectX10 card <$300. And I'm no too keen on the idea of using my old PSU to temporairily power my new system so I can update the BIOS. My old PSU has a 20-pin ATX plug, is this safe to use with the 24-pin socket on my new board?

if you have a PC CLUB store in your area..you could buy another PSU to power your MB for the BIOS update then return the PSU to PC CLUB (7 day no questions asked return policy) worked for me in another situation...
Good luck!

things have gotten better, but still not fixed.

I bought a $20 PSU and flashed my bios to the latest (released yesterday). Now I have about 50% success rate powering on with the NeoHE 550. Sometimes it cycles on-off a few times and then starts working properly. Sometimes it works properly right away. Sometimes it just keeps cycling.

Gonna send another request for RMA.

I had the same problem w/ a Neo HE500 and a Gigabyte 965P-DQ6 mobo. At first, I thought I had bad memory, but a bare bones CPU + gfx card + 1 stick of memory would POST. Then I thought that perhaps not properly securing the stock Intel cooler to my E6600 (while testing) was causing it to overheat. But that wasn't it, b/c even with clamping the cooler down, the sys still wouldn't POST w/ 2 sticks of memory.

I got it to POST, updated the BIOS to the latest version (F9). (BTW, that Flash util that this Gigabyte comes with is pretty nice.) Now, I've got it POST'ing with my 2 sticks of Corsair DDR2 RAM in dual channel config.

I'm going to risk leaving it on all night and see what happens. I'm seriously second-guessing my choice of this PSU, although I really like the modular power cable system.

Update: It ran all night ok, but when I turned it off and tried turning it on again, same problem. *sigh*
