Hey, thought I'd throw this out to you guys before we throw in the towel and
buy a new camera.

I work at a small cable TV station and our good camera , Sony DXC-327A, is
telling the iris on our Canon VCL 713BX lens to close down all the way. We
took it to a repair shop and were told the DC to DC converter #146670912 is
bad and that repair parts are unavailable. It's an 8 year old several
thousand $$ camera and we were about to purchase some new audio gear, but
with our best camera down...

The manual for the camera was history long before I came on the scene & I've
searched the internet and can't find anything about this camera. There is
another one in town that a school uses and it has the same problem.

Could I put a non-auto iris lens on and use that?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Philip

ps: I tried to post this in rec.video.provessional , but the group seems
like it isn't working.

Can't you turn the iris switch to "Manual"? All the lenses of that
class I've ever seen has an Auto/Manual switch, and most also have
a momentary push-button to engage Auto-level momentarily when
in Manual mode.

Can you reveal the Make/Model of the lens?

I have a problem with my DSC-327 because the spring-pins that
interface between the body and the lens (inside the bayonet ring)
are missing most of the springs. I have got it to work by putting
slightly long pieces of solder into the holes, but that doesn't last
forever. :-(

Doesn't the lens have an Auto/Manual Iris switch?

Post it to rec.video.production. Odds of finding someone with a manual
there are pretty good.

That's something Sony camera's do, close the iris upon a technical
problem. Why swap lenses? Just disconnect the cable from the lens to
your cam. Disadvantage is that you'll have to zoom manually, but it
saves you the money for another lens.

cheers

Mine has built-in connections between the body and the
lens. No external cable to disconnect.

Covering the iris pin with a bit of tape would isolate it
from the camera and still allow power to the lens for
zoom servo.
