Any tips for new ssd and windows 8.1 upgrade at the same time

I've just got a new ssd and windows 8.1 pro. Has anybody got some advice as to the best way to transfer files from windows 7 hdd. I've tried cloning then upgrading the ssd to windows 8.1 but half of my program's disappeared (iTunes, origin games). I guess what I'm asking is can I drag and drop from windows 7 to windows 8.1 or I am I re-installing?

You are re-installing a lot of programs, no real way around that. Dragging and dropping will only get you the files. You need registry settings, pre-requisites, and a whole bunch of other things. It also uninstalled some of those programs because they were incompatible with your new OS.

Your origin games should be copy and pastable once you install the latest origin client. That way you don't have to re-download them. There should be a FAQ/How-To for that with EA.
