Anyone flash a 9800 pro 128MB w/hynix to XT bios?

can you flash a 128MB card? The XT bios is for a 256MB card. Will it work?

Read willamettes ati bios flash article i think ther is some modified bios that work with the 128mb.Go to rage3d.com and there forums have good stuff on everything ati.

yeah, I read his entire thread, went to the two links with the bioses and could not find that 128MB hynix bios. That's why I put up this post

You obviously didn't read my thread very closely.
I need to update the flashing post with an image containing hynix BIOSes, but it clearly says if you need one PM or email me.

I will send you the BIOS you need, just email me @ theocking@cox.net asking for it.

well, it's been awhile since I've been on here. I'll reread your post and email you if I need to. I swear I read it, used the links, and couldn't find one for my card. Off to reread...

UPDATE - just reread it and went to the same link. I have a 128MB sapphire 9800 pro w/hynix. NOWHERE on that link is a 9800XT 128MB w/hynix. I do need it to be Sapphire, right? The closest thing I can find is the 9600XT 128MB w/hynix. Guess I'll have to email ya...

yo....you emailed me a 9800 pro bios - the same 9800 pro bios from that linked website in your post. Don't we need an XT bios? Am I missing something here?

Have you tried it yet i was thinking of flashing for myself. WAs kind of worried about artifacts in game though.

haven't tried it yet. It's a HIS 9800XT bios. I have a sapphire card. Will it damage it or make it inoperable?

No prob. I found a program <A HREF="http://www.radeon2.ru/bios/util/winflash 1.0.0.16.zip" target="_new">HERE</A> that does the flashing for you, rather than make a boot disk. Seems to work rather well, right in windows. With the program, choose "save" to save your current bios. You have to name it yourself and include the .bin extention. then "load" the new bios, and hit "program" to flash it. Then reboot and cross your fingers. Hell, I might just throw caution to the wind and flash it. If it doesn't work, I'll flash it back. Wish me luck!!!

SUCCESS!!!

I went for it and glad I did. I used <A HREF="http://mbnet.fi/elixir/Radeon/XT/R360-128/HIS.9800XT.128MB.Hynix.bin" target="_new">this bios</A> and the winflash program from my post above. Everything went well - expect some wacky flickering during the flashing process though, and you'll have to reinstall your ATI catalyst drivers (4.6 is out now). I now have "9800XT" showing up in device manager and I gained about 250 points in 3DMark03 over just overclocking my card with a Pro bios. No artifacting whatsover (that I could see) in the tests. I have a Sapphire 9800Pro w/256 bit Hynix DDR. Jammy, I know you've got the 350 core so good luck if you decide to do it.

nope, but I've heard that's not unusual. My max stable overclock is still 434/387. But my scores are still slightly higher at any overclock, which is still sweet. good luck guys

All right well i flashed my bba 9800 pro.No artifacts and it raised my max mem overclock from 370 to 385.i whent from 6100 to 6500 in 3dmark and from 400100 to 400500 in aquamark.

Hey man, I just flashed my pro's BIOS to the XT one and it works fine. I was a little worried because when I overclocked my card to XT speeds I got snow in nature, but I dont get that anymore so Im pretty chuffed. I think the XT BIOS must increase voltages as some people say.

Im getting 6600 in 3Dmark 03, 19000 in 2001se and 46000 in aquamark.

Hows about u?

Sweet. I'm glad everything worked out for all of us. Good times...so Jammy, are those scores at stock XT speeds or your max stable overclock? Pukepile, do you use ATI Tools to find your max speeds? Also, when benchmarking, what do you guys do? What do you do to your computer settings before a benchmark?

Ya i use ati tools.When stress testing i run all the 3dmark 03 game test looped 6 times.As for benchmarking i dont do anything reall special i just trun the air conditionor on and close out any unneeded programs.
