Hi guys, I've been looking for a new i5 for some time and recently came across a new i5 4690k for £160 free delivery, 20 to 30 quid less then anywhere else I could find. However, its a website I have never heard of and although its only 20 to 30 off, maybe its a case of too good to be true, added to the fact that I can't find a single review anywhere on the internet for the site, but maybe its just started up. Has anyone had any experience buying products from The Electro Hut before? https://www.theelectrohut.com/default.aspx Maybe I'm being over the top but I always like to research where I'm buying from after some pretty poor experiences in the past.
Thanks in advance, YMY.

Solution
Never heard of them and can't find anything about them either, not in archive.org, even though they claim to have been around since 2010, a huge retailer and so on.

I came across something similar when I was looking for software - a website that looked cheap-but-sort-of-legitimate, a bit of reading around revealed that the service they used for taking credit card payments had a bit of reputation for 'lax security', i.e. people using it were finding their credit cards cloned.

From TheElectroHut website, their 'London Address' is a Virtual Office address that has been used by others (http://mindtimeshare.me/2011/03/23/beware-of-mason-goodwin-lisco/), and their Ts & Cs include...

"...In the event that TheElectroHut.com request...
Did anyone here ever get their issues with Electro Hut resolved? It's hard to see if they are scammers or not. A couple of people seem to be saying they received their goods ....

After 5 days of emailing and reporting to Action Fraud and Scam Guard I eventually get this email!!

"Dear Valued Electro Hut Customer

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we're unable to fulfil your order due to an account termination with our Merchant account provider.
The growth of our company has been such, that the merchant service provider feel that they can no longer accommodate our business. TheElectroHut are NOT in possession of your funds and we would therefore urge you to contact your Card issuer/Bank directly - as we have no means to provide a refund to you.
We have not been in receipt of ANY funds from our Merchant service provider for a number of weeks, despite assurances that funds would arrive in our account so that we could process and fulfil your orders successfully.
Your card issuer will be in a position to liaise with our Merchant service provider and obtain the entirety of any funds that you paid to us.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused whatsoever - but this is something which is truly beyond our control.

Kind regards

The Electro Hut Team"

Bulls*it!!

Do NOT order from ElectroHut

I made the mistake of placing an order with the on 12th February and subsequently read some horror stories on this forum, which prompted me to chase them for confirmation on whether they intended to fulfil the order.

I just received the same email as Batesbears1 posted earlier:

Eric, raise a report to these guys http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud then raise it to your bank.

I've just got off the phone to my bank who are sending me a claim form to fill in 7 to 10 days. Upon sending back they are hopeful to get the funds back in my account within 48 hours. Great news, but you don't need this hassle for these cowboy sites!! Lesson learn't!!

Good luck

Got this email today:

I've also received an identically worded email as Batesbears 1 and Eric 07.
My order was for a certain waterproof camera at around £115. Just checked the website and it is still advertised today and said to be in stock.
Utterly bizarre trading.
Need to be closed down. Many thanks to Batesbears for the fraud link. I'll contact my bank asap.

Please read the threads that have come up in the last few days.
Stay well away from Electro Hut.
I have submitted a national Fraud Report.

From the front page:

Dear Valued Customers,

It is with great regret that we must cease to continue offering electronics for retail via our website.
Unfortunately, without warning our Merchant service provider has taken action and terminated our account.
Some customers (but not all) will be affected by these circumstances and we shall be emailing you a notification directly to provide you with instructions to recover your money in full.

We want to thank you for your continued custom and support.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you whatsoever,

Kind regards

The Electro Hut team.

Three possibilities spring to mind:

1) It's as the company says, that having been established in 2010 their growth within the last couple of months has been so fast the merchant service provider had no option but to the plug without warning and without handing over money already received.

2) The merchant service provider got sick and tired of all the claims coming in from customers who hadn't received their goods and were getting unsatisfactory responses from the company.

3) They used a cheap merchant service provider based somewhere abroad who has now upped and vanished with a lot of money and the personal and banking details of anybody who has ever ordered from them.

In the case of (1) or (2), I can't understand why a legitimate MSP would cancel the contract but not hand over money already received on The Electro Hut's behalf.

I doubt that The Electro Hut has lost out because it doesn't appear that they actually buy any stock until they've received the money to buy it with; at which point they probably scour foreign websites until either they find the requested model at a price that gives them a profit (which most people can do just as well themselves) or the customer complains so much that they give the money back. I can't think of any other sensible model that describes what's been happening here.

I've reported this on Action Fraud and also spoke to my bank who are taking me down the same route as Batesbears1

As Electro Hut have confirmed they won't be fulfilling the order it appears we'll be able to get the money back via the bank. This bunch of cowboys need shutting down and prosecuting ASAP. Surely this site will be taken down soon.

More billy-bullshit in an email today:

Dear Valued Electro Hut Customer,

Further to our email sent to you yesterday, we'd like to reiterate a few points you must take action on.

Firstly, we must make this very clear, The Electro Hut are NOT in possession of any funds you've paid to us for your order.

As mentioned in our previous email to you and as mentioned on the website, our Merchant account has been terminated and any monies that were due to us, are being held by the Merchant service provider, not The Electro Hut.

We are all fully aware of the underhanded tactics that banks can impose on us, unfortunately we fell victim to such circumstances which has affected your order.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide further details, but at present we are seeking Legal advice.

Steps you must take to recover any money you paid to us, for goods not received:

1- Contact your card issuer and advise them of goods not received.

2- They will liaise with our Merchant service provider and you will be in a position to recover your funds in full (you are protected with any transactions you make online with your card issuer in such instances where goods have not been supplied)

Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused whatsoever.

Kind regards

The Electro Hut

this is a fraud company. I lost £441 when I bought a camera, which I did not receive. They said they had issue with their merchant service provider, what is got to do with me if I pay them through their website? I am stuck now with no money no products. Please do not buy anything from them as it is fraud. My friend has a similar issue and he lost £387.. Beware beware, it's a fraud

Yeah, I got that email today too. It still doesn't answer why;

a, they are still attempting to trade on that site
b, why it took so long (and numerous complaints ) for them to email back.

if you still give purchase from this company then LOL

I recently placed an order for a Samsung Sound Bar with Electro hut via the Amazon website at a saving of £40 over Amazon and Currys. They said allow 7-10 working days for delivery, after 14 days I got worried. They then sent me a UPS tracking number which did not register with UPS, but 1 hour later it arrived! That's when the problems started, user manual in every language except English had to go to Samsung website and download it, 2 pin continental plugs on the woofer and sound bar so had to buy adaptors. It doesn't function correctly as the woofer keeps phasing in and out so needs to go to the Samsung service centre which is 25 miles away and I have to hand carry it. Need proof of purchase before I take it in but I never got a receipt. No one answers the phone at Electro Hut, so they are obviously belly up. I guess in one respect I am lucky that I at least got my purchase but the headaches have piled up since. Amazon should take responsibility as Electro Hut advertised on their website.

Probably unnecessary now - the last few days, the website has just been showing this:

Sorry For Inconvenience

Something has gone wrong with the site, which has caused you to see an error message.
The TheElectrohut.com team apologise for this, please be assured that we have been notified of the error and will be working to fix it shortly.

Thank you for your patience.

Have had long drawn out email discussions with Amazon and they just keep telling me to contact the seller as its not Amazon's responsibility. Can't contact Electro Hut as they don't respond.
