anyone uses man-marking?

Hi,

Does anyone use the option Man-marking? I have my two central defenders on
man-marking and I expect them to pick up the two opposition strikers. If the
opposition has two strikers this is ok, they are both man-marked. But often
at the end of the game the opposition changes tactic. I can't immediately
change the tactic because the game won't let me. Opposition scores a goal.
Then I can go to the tactics screen, to find out that: the opposition has
changed to a 4-2-4, and that one of my central defenders is marking one of
their centre forwards and the other one is marking one of their central
midfielders, leaving the other centre-forward completely free. If they have
changed to a 4-3-3 I sometimes even see that my centre backs are man-marking
the opposition centre-backs. Unless I put my central defenders on
man-specific man-marking this feature is useless.

Anyone else had this?
Playing FM2005 5.0.2

grtz,
JW

Man marking is not a very good solution. Remember in real life all the
german teams used man marking until they discovered in the 90`s it didn\t
work, and these last few years I don`t think anyone in bundesliga uses man
marking. Now 3 of the german teams are on to the next round in the champions
league.... Just watched H. Berlin - Bayern M. 0-0, BUT, H. Berlin started
the game in a 3-4-3 formation....

Just quiet the man marking thing if the program cracks it like you say, by
switching formation. Use 3 forwards instead, longshots on the midfielders
and have on of your attackers man mark their goalie....NOW you can have
fun...

i play one DMC

man marking

at newcastle it was nicky butt, he was a genius, supported the fence great,
and played some nice balls out to my wingers atthe same time

now at liverpool, using igor biscan, he isnt as good as butt

i have gotten rochemback on a free, and hope that when his work permit gets
through he can play the DMC roll to perfection

whenever i use DC man marking i always seem to get stuffed, so i just stick
to zonal

A DMC in front of your DC's can do Miracles. It's nice to set them on the
most all-over pressing and tackling and all. They usually function as a real
vacucleaner in the match

I`ve used Diao with some success as a dmc, but when he was injured I used
Alonso. He was fantastic, and Finnan has also done some good games in that
position. Riise is always OUT of position when I try him as a DMC...lol..

From the lower leagues this works also. When I set centre halfs to man
mark (not specific) they are usually marking space. When I set them to
zonal (when did a zone ever score a goal) they are still marking
space. Specific man marking with tight marking and hard tackling often
results in the desired effect with the opposite target nullified. For
those exceptional players that shrug their markers, a DMC or SW cleans
up.
