In Windows 11, the process for switching between Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections is slightly different from Windows 10. Here's how you can manually select the network connection you prefer
- Click on the network icon in the system tray on the taskbar. It should resemble the Wi-Fi signal strength icon or a computer monitor with a cable.
- A panel will appear showing the available network connections. Look for the Wi-Fi and Ethernet options.
- Click on the network connection you want to prioritize. For example, if you want to prioritize Ethernet, select the Ethernet option.
- After selecting the desired network connection, Windows 11 should prioritize it for the current session. However, this setting may not persist across reboots or when the network conditions change.
To ensure your preferred network connection remains selected even after reboot or network changes, you can modify the network adapter priority settings:
- Press the Windows key + X on your keyboard and select "Network Connections" from the menu that appears. This will open the Network Connections window.
- In the Network Connections window, press the Alt key on your keyboard to reveal the menu bar. Click on "Advanced" and then choose "Advanced Settings."
- In the Advanced Settings dialog box, you will see a list of network connections. The top connection has the highest priority, while the bottom connection has the lowest priority.
- To change the priority, select the network connection you want to prioritize and use the arrow buttons on the right side of the dialog box to move it up or down in the list. Arrange the connections according to your preferred priority, with Ethernet at the top and Wi-Fi below it.
- Once you have set the desired priority, click "OK" to save the changes.
By adjusting the network adapter priority, Windows 11 should remember your preferred connection order even after reboots or changes in network conditions.
