Google doesn't license its mapping data for that reason. You can make and display maps, but you're not allowed to do turn by turn. It's how they differentiate the "real" Google maps experience on Android vs. the watered down garbage that's on iOS.

"We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better."
How is this Apple "Acknowledging iOS6 Maps Failure"?? The way it reads to me is Apple claiming they have a great App and are working to make it even better!
I knew Apple admitting to anything negative was too good to be true!

Did People seriously expected for Apple to surpass Google in their map service? Google has worked on their maps for 7 years according to Wikipedia and they created controversy after controversy since they basically photographed the entire world! Street after street after street they ran with that little photograph car. No miraculous software algorithm will produce the same amount of quality that the real pictures deliver. I loled at the 3D mode of the Eiffel tower on that picture haha.

i hope apple do street view, and get sue down to hell by google

If Apple is so pissy with Google why not just make a deal with Mapquest. They could also have bought TomTom, Magellan or Garmin and had some professional GPS manufacturers make a truly well made integrated GPS navigation map. Heck even Bing maps is probably better than what they have now.

Its time for apple to realise that even xecond best is above them and fade into the ether

Because Google Maps is so accurate, right?

Right?

If you were to use Google Maps to go to the major car dealership in my town, or JCPenney, it would put you two miles in completely the wrong direction - in an open field...

Provide zip code and address of said locations.

Interesting enough I submitted a problem to Google maps and within a day it was fixed. Think about that in the big picture. Someone has to read the email, locate maps from the city or wherever they get the data from and then correct the problem. All in a day. Pretty impressive from such a large corporation.

1. Rumor has it that iMap is licensing from TomTom
2. iMap is not flawed and never been flawed ;p It's a 'feature' of defacing real capture to honor privacy that Google has been having problem with lawsuit by taking pictures of peoples backyards.
3. Apple might buy TomTom out to file more lawsuit including hundreds/thousands year old paper map companies and start forcing royalties on 7Billions people living on this planet because Apple invented this Earth and its round shape.

The iPhone version of google maps sucked anyway. I am glad Apple is at least trying to do something about it. I have been using a 3rd party map app for years because of the crippled version of google maps that Google has been pawning off on Apple.

Google maps been out awhile and Apple's map has allot of catching up to do. Trees and other non-structure items in maps under 3D is funky. I have no doubt Apple will fix the 3D aspect since that is the only real issue and as a standard map and navigation its perfectly fine.

And please someone from Apple take some time to repair also that so called OS for iMac.
It's hilarious how a product that "just works" it doesn't.

So how long before apple files a lawsuit against google for copying its map app?

Not sure if anybody cares, but the first big market flop for Apple was the Lisa computer - the prototype of Macintosh. It should be on the list at spot number 1.
