Apple iMac Display Problems Reported

I looking at this. The Apple Ads on TV. Where Apple Bash Vista and people moving back to Win xp. With all Vista Problems. Now we are seeing the Truth about Apple and it funny as hell. Bad Monitors, Buggy OS.

Fact is. Apple is just another computer that can have Problems and to boot there not easy upgrade. Dang I can upgrade my laptops eaiser then upgrading a Apple.

I think Apple seem to get Rotten faster then PCs.

Well if it wasn't for YouTube it probably would be a fantasy land as apple could delete anything an everything bad about itself. I can feel your pain. You over paid for something that's no where near what it's cracked up to be. But taking your frustration out on me is not the answer. LOL.

Sick of Apple getting picked on? Sure that's fair... but what did you expect to find here? If it hurts you so bad the first thing would be to look away... much like I do most of the time during an Apple [smoke and mirrors] Tv commercial.

If Apple stops, then so will I. If you can't take the heat then get out of the kitchen.

Hype machines -- "It just works" ... Does that ring any bells for ya?

* Before Intel era... SJ proclaims fastest computer in the world.

Hype = Lies. You know the truth sometimes doesn't make you feel very good... but man it sets you free and what better feeling in the whole world?

And just for the record I never said M$FT is without error nor do they proclaim to be either, but for as many configuations you could put it in is rather an achievement in and of itself.

Funny you should mention components... components apple picked, packaged and overcharged you for and then proclaims "It just works". Well there still might be time for apple to dial up IBM / Motorola and get some snail processors for the el cheapo and then charge you tripple... so much for "the fastest computer in the world." LOL.

So now that we've thouroughly passed the buck as to where the real problem lies... the next step to recovery is admitting apple has a problem... well not just yet.. the stock price is still going up... so there's still a few suckers out there yet...... poor apple ~ but hey cheer up you still have your iphone and ipod so all is not lost right? :lol:

much of what apple does is hype

even though apple has a smaller percentage of the computer market, a larger percentage of their users are fanboys and with that, apple gets an even bigger ego and exploits everyone even more.

macs are less upgradeable and become outdated faster than pc, this makes then less able to do any kind of gaming as as instead of getting a new cpu to meet the requirements for a game, your stuck buying a whole new computer.

for the hardware you get in a mac, there way too overpriced and don't offer any more quality than any other company.

for $1200 in a imac you get

* 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1GB memory
* 250GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB memory

the cpu is $135

the memory cost $23-$30 (from crucial)

250GB hard drive $60

8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL $35

a 256mb 2400xt $56 (i cant even find a 128mb)

this comes to a total cost of $309

which leaves $891 to cover the cost of the motherboard, case, display, keyboard and mouse and powersupply

with $891 going to cover just the motherobard, case, screen, mouse, keyboard, and powersupply

this comes to a average of $178.2 per item, and as we know, the mouse and keyboard doesnt cost anywhere close to that, and the case doesnt cost that much, and the power supply doesnt cost that much, and the cheap motherboard doesnt cost that much, and the new cheaper lcds don't cost that much, where is that money going to?

based on the average price of these items, apple is getting around $600 profit for each imac sold for the price of 1 imac, you could get 2 dells with better specs (but as we all know dell pcs are poorly built)

and for the mac pro, you are getting ripped off even more

here are the specs of the cheapest mac pro

Specifications

* Two 2.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
* 1GB (2 x 512MB)
* 250GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB (single-link DVI/dual-link DVI)
* One 16x SuperDrive
* Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English

)
2x dual core 2.33 GHz xeons $364

1GB (2x512) $25 (for corsair)

250GB hard drive $60

7300gt $55

16x dvd burner $37

this comes out to a total of $541 which leaves $1659 to cover the cost of the case, motherboard, power supply, keyboard and mouse

if you spread out the $1659 over the case, motherboard, powersupply, mouse and keyboard, the average cost per item is $414.75 per item

and we all know that the mouse and keyboard is not worth $414.75

and the case is also not worth that much and the average cost of a server motherobard that supports 2 processors is around $250

if you take the average cost of each of these items, you will see that apple gets about $1000 profit from each mac pro they sell, and since there not very upgradeable, many mac users tend to buy new ones frequently

for much of apple's high end computers, you will be overcharged by at least $1000

apple has no right to to use such cheap hardware when they overcharge on everything

the problem is that apple is greedy and wants even more profit so they screw everyone by making changes such as cheap displays

Mr. Celeste makes it sound like everything Apple ships has a problem. Almost as if there's some agenda there.... :pt1cable:

Not all iMacs have problems nor is Leopard the buggy OS Mr. Celeste makes it out to be. Nor is every Vista user so flustered they are migrating back to XP/SP3. Every piece of hardware/software can have issues. Some users reporting issues does not damn the whole line.

As for Apple's "hype," every company does it. Remember the FUD wars between MS and IBM re Win95 and OS/2 Warp? You don't? Learn some history of the industry.

I purchased a 24" iMac on Oct. 5th. Hardware-wise, it's great. I do not have any color issues, there are no missing pixels, and bleed through is non-existent. I did experience the complete lock-up symptoms when running graphically intensive programs under 10.4.10, but those were due to bad ATI drivers. Once I installed a driver update they went away.

I had one issue with Leopard: I installed as an upgrade instead of as a clean install and it wouldn't let me log back on. Apple tech support was very helpful and I found an article on the website using my laptop which described how to fix the issue. I'm now running Leopard just fine, and have not encountered any of the issues mentioned in Mr. Celeste's articles.

And if you need a picture for proof, Mr. Celeste, I'll provide one. Though it may not be of my iMac. 😗

p.s. - If anyone thinks the "cost" of a mac is solely hardware, they haven't used iLife. And show me another commercial OS that provides development tools for free (e.g. XCode, Shark, XRay, Dashcode)?

Easy. Ubuntu or any other flavor of linux for that matter.

What's with toms hardware all of a sudden writing all these very negative articles about apple with no facts and just hearsay to back up the article? Where are the details on the test setup, the list of tests performed, the results and the conclusion? I'm not a mac fan at all, but I read toms hardware because it generally has mostly unbiased hardware reviews. In this article, no hardware is reviewed at all, it's just four pages of the author explaining what other people thought about a product. I get the censorship thing, and yes; apple sucks (I'll never get over the 1 mouse button thing as long as apple exists :)). This type of stuff is a new low for toms hardware, as large as the site/company is, they should have editors who weed out crap like this, maybe the author could post it on his opinion blog.

Wheather the complaints of the users are valid or not, there's no good reason for THG to have posted an article on the subject and completely skipped any kind of testing at all. Bad form, thg.

at my college, theres 1 mac with a 24 inch display (not a imac) but the screen has a large burn-in in the middle of the screen of the default background because it is left on all the time and of you load up a blank page, you can see the burn in

but the ones (20 inch displays (dell ultrasharp)) there on all the time with no screensaver and no standby and they have no burn ins (but the apple brand display gives better color than the dell ultra sharp)

Considering that one can run Windows natively on a Mac, I would love to see THG attempt a thorough review of Apple hardware against a similarly configured home-built or commercial PC. I'm honestly interested in the results.

I'm not an Apple "fanboy," I'm just a professional computer user. Right now, Apple hardware and software are ideal for my work and home needs. Vista is a trainwreck, in my opinion, and I would rather have a fully integrated solution than go through the hassle of piecing together a new PC like I did three years ago.

not sure about that, it is like the pixels make a noticeable shape of some kind of program, it is like those pixels are slightly darker. (that monitor is always on and is used for registration at the library and is on for what i believe to be 24/7 as in the morning the lights will be off in the library and the screen will still be on displaying the register window

if you turn the monitor off, the screen looks normal, but when on, some of those pixels are darker than they should be

I started looking around on other forums. Like notebook Review. Then go on Google.com and type in Imac Leopard problems. You do see some problems with Imacs.

Like every PC user on here we try to help people with computer problems. Mybe Mac users should start doing the same thing. Face up to the Fact there are Macs that have problems. Use your skills to help people fix that problem.

Here two url with Mac problems. It seems they where tired of tech support.

well then it must be REALLY bad to get that much.......i mean there have been cheap screens for years(and viewing angle has ALWAYS been bad on lcd;s when compared to every other screen tech..[come on OLED....infinite viewing angles here we come..once they get the other issues worked....]).....i just figures a fair amount of people would not even care....

I stand corrected....

I have a new iMac 24" and havent had any problems. Has anyone here had a problem? Also, I loaded up Leopard and had no problems with the install. It works good. Haven't had a problem with wireless either.
If anyone has had these problems, would love to hear about it. If I have any of these troubles I'll let you know and will keep tabs on Apple's warranty response. Actually, so far, I've been impressed with the monitor and whole viewing experience. Also, as I am starting to get familiar with Apple's operating system it has a lot of features I like. This is my first Apple computer and I like Apple and Microsoft. I think they both make great operating systems. XP has been really solid for me for about four years now. Hardly ever a problem.
Has anyone loaded up XP on their Macs yet? Would you recommend Boot Camp or VMWare?
I don't care for the Mail program. The program itself works great, but it definitely is not a great database like Outlook. But, I've got my workhorse HP laptop for running my business on anyway and bought this for fun. iPhoto is excellent for organizing files, works great. I am a long time Photoshop user and nothing compares to CS3; but iPhoto is cool and easy to get your pics up and organized. I just made a photo book with it last night for fun. Works slick. I have some great photos from the Botanical Gardens at Balboa Park in San Diego and in less than an hour I had the photo book done. I'm going to get CS3 for the Mac and see if it works on Leopard or is buggy.
So far, the Unix OS seems rock solid. Also, I got the one with the 2.8Ghz extreme Intel processor. I haven't been able to find out which Intel chip this is. I would like to see some performance stats on it.
It multitasks like a dream. I only went with 2Gig ram. Anyone gone to 4Gig? I'm thinking I'll probably want 4G when I load CS3. I get a little crazy with hi-rez photos sometimes and my 1Ghz HP goes cough. hahaha
Happy Holidays!

Since VMware is still a "fake" PC(so there is not a real video card or sound card ect), you will get better performance from Boot Camp(I assume it just bypasses loading mac and lets windows run from its own partition, sorry have not used any Mac that was boot camp ready....PPC)

VMware is ok if you do not need any kind of video acceleration(games) and has the advantage of running one OS within the other so you can task switch between them....

I had previously thought it was just me and the way I was looking at my iMac's screen.

However after doing the solid colour checks that have been discussed I can confirm I have the same wash-out issue. Fortunately it is not so bad as to make the screen unusable for joe-average type use. But I can see that for someone doing photo or art work it would be a significant issue.

Given the cost of the iMac I would hope that a resolution under warranty is provided by Apple. If however it is just a case of them using cheap LCDs to maximise profits then I guess I will review any further Mac purchases. I like my Mac and I love OSX 10.5 but I like the ability to get just the computer parts I want at the quality I want. If Apple's reputation for quality is failing (v's a true temporary production glitch) then I guess I will treat them like any other commodity producer. Pitty really.

It is a pity, this was always their one true advantage. Even though you paid more for their hardware, it was higher quality hardware. But so far this year, they're selling the Mac Pro with a video card you'd expect to find in an emachine from last year, and now either very poor quality or defective screens. But as long as they make cool phones and MP3 players, I guess Steve is happy.

Man be thankful that Apple has such tech forums. Where the hell is the windows Vista forum that's ran by microsoft? Google isn't working well, I finally came up with something

http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1004&SiteID=25

http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/default.aspx?SiteID=17

Now where is Tom and screen capping of this? Oh that doesn't happen because window's problems are so common place that it's just taken for granted.

After cruising the apple forums, even those with the display issues, some posts are so full of asshats and bile in both original poster and reply that it's no wonder the mods lock the thread or delete.

Heck if some of those posts arrive here saying some way out bull about toms hardware I'm sure the mods would lock it or delete it as well. The Apple forums are not professional support forums. Be lucky that they even have such a nice easy to search and navigate forum to use.

as for paying too much for their hardware, Imacs are priced competitively with any other computer manufacturer. It's just that PC users can't see past 4 things on a computer, CPU, RAM, HARDRIVE, and GRAPHICS CARD. they tend to overlook webcam, bluetooth, integrated wifi, optical audio, gigabit, integrated monitor, firewire 800, along with a great app suite.

So far there is only 1 thing that can hold a candle to the imac http://tinyurl.com/2aeka9

I'm fairly certain MS runs well over 100 newsgroups off of a public usenet server, accessible from any computer with an internet connection, and from google, and from the MS web site.

But the real question is: Whenever Apple is questioned, why do you fanbois bring up Microsoft, even when Microsoft has nothing to do with the question? Is that all Apple is to you? Hatred of Microsoft? Your revenge on Bill Gates is buying Apple?

And then you all run out and buy a copy of XP to run on your Macs...

Yanno, that's a good point, PCs should have Firewire 800 (800 Mbps). But Macs should have external SATA (3000 Mbps).

I'll take the external SATA, thank you very much.

I am awaiting machine number 3 next week and it´s the last exchange I´ll be expecting. The 24in Al iMac is my first Apple product and so far it´s been a hellish experience due to screen problems (mainly tinting in the center)

Wow...I figured I should call you on that BS since no one else will. Are you kidding me VS 2008?? It was just barely released on November 18th. Sure, I am sure whatever company you work for just jumped on the bandwagon in a week and started using a new development package before it has time to make its way into the sector. RIGHT!! Give me a f--- break... You're a developer my ass. Writing little projects for community college programming classes doesn't count BRO sorry ! :non:

I love the way these Apple fanatics operate. When a problem with Apple is brought up, (1) you're picking on them - even if you're right that's irrelevant - you're still picking on them, (2) bring up a problem with Microsoft - because when something at Apple sucks, it doesn't really matter - as long as something at Microsoft also sucks.

Excuseme02, nice work on catching that VS 2008 lie. NO ONE is developing yet with VS 2008. Anyone using VS 2008 right now is experimenting with it to see what's new. No one is developing with it yet, that was a bald faced lie just to invent something new to blame on MS.

Looks like Toms posted another update to Display censorship but this time didn't link a discussion thread.

And I do wonder, How big does a thread need to get before locking it?

Should there be a 3000 post long thread?

should there be 3000 posts about the same subject?

Apple Forums are not support forums nor are they professionally ran.
