much of what apple does is hype
even though apple has a smaller percentage of the computer market, a larger percentage of their users are fanboys and with that, apple gets an even bigger ego and exploits everyone even more.
macs are less upgradeable and become outdated faster than pc, this makes then less able to do any kind of gaming as as instead of getting a new cpu to meet the requirements for a game, your stuck buying a whole new computer.
for the hardware you get in a mac, there way too overpriced and don't offer any more quality than any other company.
for $1200 in a imac you get
* 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1GB memory
* 250GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB memory
the cpu is $135
the memory cost $23-$30 (from crucial)
250GB hard drive $60
8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL $35
a 256mb 2400xt $56 (i cant even find a 128mb)
this comes to a total cost of $309
which leaves $891 to cover the cost of the motherboard, case, display, keyboard and mouse and powersupply
with $891 going to cover just the motherobard, case, screen, mouse, keyboard, and powersupply
this comes to a average of $178.2 per item, and as we know, the mouse and keyboard doesnt cost anywhere close to that, and the case doesnt cost that much, and the power supply doesnt cost that much, and the cheap motherboard doesnt cost that much, and the new cheaper lcds don't cost that much, where is that money going to?
based on the average price of these items, apple is getting around $600 profit for each imac sold for the price of 1 imac, you could get 2 dells with better specs (but as we all know dell pcs are poorly built)
and for the mac pro, you are getting ripped off even more
here are the specs of the cheapest mac pro
Specifications
* Two 2.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
* 1GB (2 x 512MB)
* 250GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB (single-link DVI/dual-link DVI)
* One 16x SuperDrive
* Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English
)
2x dual core 2.33 GHz xeons $364
1GB (2x512) $25 (for corsair)
250GB hard drive $60
7300gt $55
16x dvd burner $37
this comes out to a total of $541 which leaves $1659 to cover the cost of the case, motherboard, power supply, keyboard and mouse
if you spread out the $1659 over the case, motherboard, powersupply, mouse and keyboard, the average cost per item is $414.75 per item
and we all know that the mouse and keyboard is not worth $414.75
and the case is also not worth that much and the average cost of a server motherobard that supports 2 processors is around $250
if you take the average cost of each of these items, you will see that apple gets about $1000 profit from each mac pro they sell, and since there not very upgradeable, many mac users tend to buy new ones frequently
for much of apple's high end computers, you will be overcharged by at least $1000
apple has no right to to use such cheap hardware when they overcharge on everything
the problem is that apple is greedy and wants even more profit so they screw everyone by making changes such as cheap displays
