This review is Crap. Tom's guide is made for reviews of software and mainstream consumer accessories. Tom's hardware is primarily for Internal computer hardware, various storage and networking options, and the output (screens, audio). Most of the input articles should be on tom's guide cause they are bias.

As so many people have all ready commented on this is a very one sided review and tries to contradict any little spot on the mac side by any means necessary. The discussion about the PwnToOwn was just... the mac Exploit was part of the preinstalled hardware don't try to say they took a long time to figure out that hole, You have no idea. The hole for windows was a 3rd party program which is cross platform. could that same security hole have been present on the mac version of adobe? That isn't stated within the article but it should be.

Tom's hardware Stick to the numbers they don't lie add you little quips if you like but keep the numbers on top. Tell us release dates, prices, specs, and benchmarks.

I use whatever OS I need to perform the tasks required. I buy whatever is cheapest (I'm too lazy to bother with Linux setup though). I don't care what others use, because they have their reasons whether I think they make sense or not.

So many people got insulted by this. Grow up kids, seriously.

Don't worry all.

With all the traffic, comments, and ad revenue they've made of these 2 articles, I'm sure will see a part 3 that's just as ignorant and biased. After all, they're already losing their original audience (tech enthusiasts), why not milk every last buck off of them?

[citation][nom]cruiseoveride[/nom]haha, "Stunning piece of hardware", yeah stunning alright, cant get more pimp than a geforce 9400M.In life there are certain things that if a man does them, it makes him look gay but if a woman does, its fine. I will list some of these things:1. Drive a Mazda Miata or Porsche Boxster2. Use beauty products3. Wear polo necks4. Use apple productsGood or Bad, like it or not, if you go to a coffee shop and pull out a laptop (nerd), and then it just happens to be a macbook (faaaaaaaaaag). Its life. You're a poof[/citation]

That's so true in so many ways.

Couldn't agree more. I mean cmon he's been using computers since how long but doesn't back up data. Also how does reinstalling vista take too long compared to buying a new mac and putting all your stuff on that.

Two days later.... I finally stopped laughing.

Now I will type a few thoughts without the urge to type LOL.

I don't hate macs. Macs have there place. It is too bad that TH can't say it like it is.

Macs are for Graphics designers, people who aren't tech savvy, and your Mom (if she's over 60). We can't forget the image conscience people that will buy the most expensive bottled water believing that it is better.

PC's are for everyone else.

Canadian reference coming..... Tim Horton's sells a large coffee for about 1/2 the price of Starbucks. Starbucks is about image. Venti, half caf, mocca latte homo drink.... . Tim Horton's will never go broke because they offer good quality coffee at great prices.

We will see if Apple can sell there mojo in the upcoming hard economic times. Apple should sell their OS to PC users that want to run duel boot. I guess that selling a OS for $150-$200 to millions of PC users may ruin their Starbucks style image. But it would make them a ton of money. The amount of people that would buy it just to try it would be staggering.

The fact that the author attaches intelligence with buying a Mac is laughable.

There are many types of intelligence. My brother has an IQ of 155 but I had to hook up his DVD player. He couldn't quite get the sound working. When I help him over the phone with his computer, I have to specify left click or right click. Although my IQ is 15 points lower than his we could argue who is more intelligent. My brother was smart enough to have me build his last computer. He has high end parts for 2/3 the cost of a slower Mac.

Tom's Hardware should be about Hardware for enthusiasts not pre-built systems like Mac and Dells. Macs and Dells have no place on this site.

I like my mac(s) as well. It is really good to see a Windows user take his head out of the sand and look at something besides, well, the sand. I run XP on my Macbook Pro and I like that as well. I just like OS X better. Thanks, Tom's, for writing a review about something besides Win products. I find it refreshing!
I just wanted to express a different point of view and let Tom's know Mac users like the site as well. And heck, 10% of 300,000,000,000 IS 30,000,000,000. Finally, Apple is listed by Forbes as being among the fastest growing tech companies around! http://www.forbes.com/2009/01/28/fast-tech-companies-tech-fasttech09_0129_newcomers.html

This article is refreshing AND timely!

@Waffle911:

You did a much better defense for Macs than the article.

Apple should contract you instead of putting this bag of lies sneaked as a review.

The MacBook is basically a really big iPod! Macs in general are really cool looking, sleek, and elegant CALCULATORS! It's the computer for dummies! The only reason it's used in graphic arts is because those people are sooooo stupid they can't use a regular pc! The rest that get Macs are all the elitist pricks and the "I try soooooooo hard to be different" crowd! Screw them all!!!

PS: I hope I didn't offend anyone.

MAC OS has no place on this site, this site is for hardcore system builders. Give me a break, who would want Mac OS anyway, its a limited system that runs a tiny minority of the world's software. This review has no place on this site.

Does anyone know the most powerful Photoshop system right now? I'll give you a hint, its Photoshop CS4 64bit, and it only runs on XP and Vista 64 bit, Not MAC OS.

Well Alan Dang, if I can avoid them, I wont read a single one of your artcles anymore. All you've managed to do with this entire article is waste our time/confirm to all of us that mac is just as much of a waste of time.

And I promise you that Macs wouldnt be selling like they are if they werent bedding the uni's. University students will make up a HUGE percentage of Mac buyers. And 95% of Uni students today are total idiots. Seriously. At our local campus everyone knows OSX as the 'stupid people computer', and most are proud to own a mac because of that fact.

Hell, 90 percent of the mac users probably have no idea there was a Right mouse button on any other PC.

Hey! don't believe the propaganda.

Only on SOME universities are a numerous number of Mac users. (and Apple is happy of promoting them, as if where mainstream)

On most there are very rare and short lived.

Ok, I suppose it's an indiana thing, where out of most major colleges, the only two schools that seem to have more PC's than macs are Purdue and Notre dame.

Their is one word to describe 98% of the people commenting here... It's the perfect word. Ignorant.

A person with a phd is an idiot? Let's think about this. First you have Joe. He started working, and solved the same problems in tech support, or general development. He uses the same practices he always does, because why would he change. Then their is Bob, he's spent the last 5 years doing his masters and phd, meaning he has spent the last 5 years looking finding problems, coming up with solutions, and trying to evolve a field, something no one else is going to do.

You know the general education of people in R&D? I bet you can guess it.

Like seriously... Im not going to go any further with all your childish uninformed accusations, you are all retarded!

This man wrote an article about a PERSONAL COMPUTER, as in the literal term. He wrote an entire article on the operating system, taking care to talk about the nitty gritty of the kernal and security. Are you saying nvidia driver software is not discussed here?

Go freaking pick up a book on usability and figure out why windows fails and mac os x and linux succeed. Then pick up a book on the pros of standards and realize why mac os x succeeds and linux fails.

Maybe you all should have watched that video on BET "Read a book". You appear to be the level of intelligence it's aimed at.

Seriously, I've loved this place for years, and I don't want to ever stop reading the news and articles and also the comments. But knowing the community here is filled with such ignorance pains me a lot... it is really hard to find a place on the internet not full of idiots.

A degree doesn't make you any less of a dipshit.

Intelligence is all about processing information. No amount of information will even make you more intelligent, it will just make you more knowledgeable (a gorilla could learn every word in the dictionary, does that make it more intelligent than someone who hasn't?).

You don't have to be intelligent to get a Ph.D, hell, intelligence has little to do with academic performance up to High School, and even further if you decide to go with a non-math or science major. Getting a Ph.D in Literature doesn't mean your intelligent, or you know anything about computers.

[citation][nom]funkjunky[/nom]Go freaking pick up a book on usability and figure out why windows fails and mac os x and linux succeed.[/citation]
I'm sorry, but you're retarded. I've been running various Linux Distros over the years, along side a Windows boot that use for gaming. And while certain Linux Distro maybe have great usability for some basic apps, I've had to compile quite a few programs from source, even going through the source to replace decrepit code for updated compilers.

Windows is extremely easy to use, and I can still to complex tasks easily.

[citation][nom]funkjunky[/nom]Then pick up a book on the pros of standards and realize why mac os x succeeds and linux fails.[/citation]
Standards?
Standards!?

Linux is a kernel, not an Operating System. So your thing about standards is rather moot. If everyone is using the same OS, then everything on it is standard.

a phd would probably help you use correct spelling and grammar. =)

Btw I only insulted everyones intelligence here. I didn't say having a phd makes you more intelligent. Their is a high chance you are wiser and more knowledgeable if you have one.

Also we are talking about an operating system as a whole, not JUST a kernal. The windows kernal is pretty good as the author of this article mentioned >.>. That's the funny thing, he mentioned many pro's with windows, and never flat out said 'windows is better than mac os x', but you INTENSE, and I really wanna emphasize the word intense, fanboys, or I suppose mac haters appear to strongly believe he was just bashing windows and complimenting macs through the entire article.

one word dude... one word. Ignorant.

Lol, it's pretty obvious you're the ignorant one, you've just seen 1 or 2 comments. I know this because if you had cared to read a few comments, you would have seen this:
[citation][nom]Tindytim[/nom]People here aren't "butthurt" because the article praises a Mac, but because this is a Hardware site. When was the last time we saw a Tom's article about another pre-build computer? Much less a 2 parter?

People here are Tech Enthusiasts, which is about as far away from a Mac user as you can get. People here build computers, they don't buy them. Why should they give a shit about any pre-built computer, much less a Mac?[/citation]

Not only have multiple people reiterated a similar sentiment, but many more believe this to be an advertise meant. There were very few numbers, and multiple unsubstantiated claims. Lots of "I feel" and "I think".

Not necessarily. My girlfriend went to Cambridge university and studied her phd there. I only have a University degree, but I am more articulate and better at spelling than she is. However she did study a phd in cellular molecular pathology, so having an excellent command of english isnt really necessary.

[citation][nom]funkjunky[/nom]
Their is a high chance you are wiser and more knowledgeable if you have one.[/citation]

Studying a phd means you are highly specialising in a field of academia. People taking academia to this level generally are bright, but its more about working hard in an academic world. Ive met dozens of phd students, and none of them were any more knowledgable about computing than the man in the street. Why would a phd history student need to know anything more than how to use a printer for example?

Also its "There is a high chance", not "Their".

[citation][nom]funkjunky[/nom]
Also we are talking about an operating system as a whole, not JUST a kernal.[/citation]

Its spelt Kernel.

[citation][nom]funkjunky[/nom]
Ignorant.[/citation]
Yes, you are. You seem to be pro-Mac as well, which reinforces my existing opinion of Mac users.
