Being the only person here who actually used an iPod touch and a Galaxy S2 and not just someone who bitches about iPhone owners are Apple fanboys and have never touched more than 1 phone, I think I agree with the idea of a longer screen. A bigger (wider) one would change the way previous iPhone users type. I honestly HATE typing on the Galaxy S2 screen because the screen is too wide, while the iPod touch and iPhone is much more suitable for me. This is coming from someone who typed on the Galaxy S2 for over a year. I won't be someone who will purchase this, and I'm not impressed by a whole lot, but it wasn't a bad move making the screen longer. Just a different non-ignorant perspective.

I'm one of the reprobates who doesn't like how big the Android phones have gotten... so size wise I think this design is fine - though I'm not sure the market will agree (the market seems to like bigger). I'll be taking a long look at the Lumia 920 for my next phone, but if that doesn't fly then this is the most likely option b.

[citation][nom]bustapr[/nom]i wonder how the thing with the chinese company patent will turn out. this iphone is clearly blatantly violating the companies patent.[/citation]

Yees haha the goophone!

I think we will be very entertained in the coming months whereas the patent bully will now be bullied back.

[citation][nom]del35[/nom]I need a few laughs. Waiting for iCrap's new piece of jailamoronin junk. Just got done talking to a guy who had to throw hi iPad away because, well, the battery was not working right and to replace it would have been more expensive than buying a new one. Yes, that is iCrap for you.[/citation]

iPad Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPad purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPad. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $99, plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

Even a first gen used iPad typically goes more than the batter replacement cost, not sure what you're talking about.

[citation][nom]technod[/nom]Wait a second... My android, which is nearly one year old, can take a fantastic panoramic photo. Your telling me the legendary iphone just got this??Oh well. i guess they were too busy patenting their amazing rectangles to put this on previous iphones.[/citation]
Psh, my 6 year old Samsung dumphone did panoramic pictures. I'm sure apple will be praised for this feature though.

[citation][nom]house70[/nom]As it can't do any real multitasking, it doesn't really matter. Besides, all the figures in this presentation were pulled straight from Tim Crook's (sic) rear end, as there is no independent confirmation or benchmarks to back them up.[/citation]

I'm thinking that since Apple didn't brag about the amount of Ram in their presentations that maybe they left it at 512mb like the Iphone 4 and 4s! Making it even a more lackluster phone compared to the Galaxy S3 and all the upcoming phones.

The iPhone 5 doesn't is not a game changer. Apple has already shown they prefer lawsuits over innovation.

I am just an average consumer who is very confused. Is that a Goophone i5 for sale? I want a Goophone i5, Ill buy one of these. I've really been looking forward to the Goophone i5 that I see pictured here. Where can I buy one?

[citation][nom]Bloob[/nom]Lumia 920, still the best phone announced this year.[/citation]
... may be the 3rd best... if you can find usage scenarios for your self ...the screen is nice... but with the fake images allegedly made by lumia 920...

iPhlop. At least the herd will be happy. Nice to see that the new iPhlop is thinner than the last, Im sure the first few people who buy it will enjoy trying to distinguish their phone from the one their gardener or garbage collector owns.

Changing the screen aspect must make ZERO sense for the Apple Sphere imo - the 4x3 aspect 3.5" screen was considered "perfect" according to Steve and his legion of fans (the platform fragmentation it brings must also not be ignored). The chances Steve had ANYTHING to do with iPhone 5's development are now ZERO. There is NO WAY he would have signed off on this new screen - it is after all a screen size/aspect he could have implemented from day one on the very first iPhone. Steve is rolling in his grave.

Yes, that one video was indeed not shot with the 920. The stills outside that video were though, as was this: http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/7/3299784/nokia-lumia-920-pureview-camera-hi-res-photos

Of course, longer exposure requires the target to be still as well. And the OIS will be great for videos.

Edit: and then there is of course Rich Recording, while only mono in the 920, still the best sound recording you can get from a phone atm

[citation][nom]fuzznarf[/nom]I'll buy one. But only because my 3GS is old. And being a software developer, writing IOS apps is faster, more standardized, and more lucrative than Andriod apps unfortunately.[/citation]
You are thumbed down because Tom's is full of MS drones who probably still live with their moms in their basments and love their Xbox too and they who love to hate on Apple and their superior OS and products.

Apple is the big company you all love to hate but in secret you use one yourself and hide it from the world because you are too ashamed to admit it, like eating McDonalds.
You can't help but stare in awe as they develop the most polished phone with the most flawless user experience, regardless if these features exist on other phones or not, Apple does it best.
They also happen to market best, which just boils your blood I know.
Instead of hating Apple, why not support them for being the best AMERICAN company, showing what true innovation in AMERICA can do.

I know that not many will notice this question on page 4 but I'll give it a go.

The iphone 5 was launched with LTE support on bands 1 through 5. Of which 2 and 4 are North America specific and band 1 and 5 is Asia-Pacific specific.

My question is simply: Does any one know of any European country where band 3 is LTE enabled?

Most European countries use band 7 for LTE, and although many companies hold concessions for LTE use of band 3, I am unaware of any country where this is enabled due to the fact that band 3 is the backbone 3G band, and therefore the last to switch to 4G.

I know that several countries aren't going to get band 3 LTE support at all, including Great Britain, Spain, France, and Italy.

Unfortunate news for some, but I doubt the US court would side with a foreign company, especially China considering the tension between the two countries which I remember hearing time and time again.
Another thing is, I remember mildly reading that the Goophone is designed from the leaked images of the iPhone 5 released these past previous months. If the design is in fact similar to the iPhone that's to be released, then maybe Apple has a claim on the design already.
Sorry to bring your or anyone else's hopes down with this thought of mine, but I try to make my perspective fair for all companies (and I'm not an Apple fan per se) but it's only right that justice prevails when someone steals off someone else's intellectual property.

I believe it's 3:2 (960x640) aspect ratio, unless it had a different resolution screen than the iTouch 4th Gen. Also, I'm not sure if SJ said that about the iPad only or for the iPhones as well.
(If you could hear me, I'd be speaking to you in a calm, normal tone.) I think innovation and improvement can be severely limited by close-minded thinking. If their market research saw that people wanted wider screens to watch widescreen movies better, then why not give the people what they want? Honestly, using this iTouch, I could do with a taller screen as long as it's still comfortable to use. With things like the Facebook Messenger app, I'd be able to see more of the messages especially when I'm typing and the keyboard is out on the screen. That is if they update apps like that, because it was said that current apps would have black borders, aside from the built-in ones I guess...

Also, for other people who think that the screen size looks weird, it's a 16:9 pretty much, like a lot of laptops, monitors, other smartphones (?), and tablets. I have two theories as to why it may look weird to some. It could be because their accustomed to the older iPhone and iTouch's screens (3:2, not sure if all of them are) or because the bezels of the sides are thin but the top and bottom aren't which makes the device look longer and maybe gives that illusion of the screen being weird. :)

[citation][nom]teh_chem[/nom]I'm so much more excited over the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" than the pretty-vanilla Apple unveils today. No mention of NFC--which probably means (given Apple's standard "upgrade" route, since the next iphone will probably be just like the 5 only with an updated processor/RAM), the next one probably won't--implying that iphones won't have NFC for 2 years. But I think NFC is already taking off, which means Apple is behind the curve (as even my crappy $130 Android phone on VM has NFC).I gotta say, what I've read is pretty lackluster for a "new" iphone release. And interestingly enough, despite a relatively good day on the stock market, Apple's stock hasn't reacted positively to this announcement.[/citation]

Apple doesn't support NFC as a technology , they don't think it's secure and warranted.
