Console-system input is the reason I own nothing newer than an NES. I don't care about 'em; so, I have 2 40" TV's side-by-side with PC's attached to each - instead of a console system on either.
Of the times I've played an Xbox or playstation, the character will do something that makes me think "Wait, I didn't mean to do that"...

Though most humorous part that everyone is missing - aren't there multiple "Professional Gamer" leagues (beyond the PGL) which boast their console-game playing abilities to be god-like? And what about all the BS / hype of a "Gamer" able to manipulate 400 actions per minute. Seems like it's all a waste to me. Go outside for a jog. Fatties.

let's put it this way: once they enable usage of mouse+keyboard on consoles, the difference will vanish.

currently the PC is the more versatile platform allowing for ANY kind of controller to be connected. plus it is upgradable for more FPS and better response times.

consoles are stuck at the same level until they are EOLed by the manufacturer.

the PC will always be better. just it's a bit more expensive and a bit more hassle.

Yet another reason why console developers are stupid for not brining out a mouse and gamepad hybrid controller. I bought a SplitFish Frag for my PS3 which is great, except it's still not as accurate as a real PC mouse. Console developers need to get their heads out of their nether regions and offer some support for better controls.

A Mouse and keyboard are superior. Not the gamers themselves.

I'd still much rather play on a controller. I like reclining and relaxing in front of my nice HT system much rather than sitting in front of my nice computer system.. I hate sitting at a desk after I come home from work sitting at a desk all day.

PC is way better than XBOX, xbox is old, old graphics, old cpu, old. And PCs are upgradeable, buildable.. but thats not the point ~~~XBOX CONTROLLERS AREN'T MADE FOR SHOOTERS~~~ they are made for racing, face it.

What % of the market are FPS games? I'd include RTS and 3PS (3rd person shooters) into the PC > Console bunch, but what about the WHOLE rest of the games? Are they not crowded enough to make a difference on that statement?

Hell, someone involved in the project/research should come clean about it xD!

Cheers!

The project only compared cross platform testing, PC vs. 360. So that would only be Shadowrun and Lost Planet Colonies. Not controller vs. M/KB on PC only. The result would still be the same, unless it was a racing game/fighting game. lol. RTS/RPG/MMO/FPS would all still be better with the M/KB.

I think some of the 3rd based shooters would be close as well though. LP colonies isn't too bad with the controller, and neither is Gears of War PC, but they are console games anyway. So they were made more for the controller by default. They also have a pretty slow pace, so it's not hard to keep up even with a controller. In GOW's case they should allow for faster sensitivity on the controller, because the highest in game sensitivity for it is a joke. Especially when you do the quick zoom with it. Slow as a snail, while zoomed in. lol

It amazes me how SOME of you become so giggly like schoolgirls. Don't worry PC Gamers, You're Good Enough, You're Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like You!

All I'm getting from this article is that the consoles should allow keyboard+mouse control...

If they did that I might actually be convinced to game on a console. Its not like it cant be done, all current consoles are USB compatible. Heck you can use a keyboard outside of the games, there's no reason it wouldn't work in game if programmed to.

my biggest issue is with performance... i would 'never' buy a fps for a console system, but i am a mild jrpg addict, and the only way to get my fix is with (unfortunately) a console system... but the effing jaggies!! and low res!! it makes me sad to see my sexy oc'd pc setting next to such horrendous hardware settings... i can't even play my wii anymore, i'm not that big of a stickler on texture resolution, but there's no excuse for such low resolution and jaggies... i made the mistake and got red dead redemption on the ps3 and couldn't even play it... pop in, tearing, low framerates.... i would never play a game with that many issues...

fortunately with console games, you can always sell them back :)

Look up the XFPS 4.0 attachment for the 360. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=xfps+4.0&aq=f In reviews it states that it's not as good as it is on the PC, but that may be the hardwares fault. 30fps can feel choppy with a KB/M if your used to 60fps.

I think they should create all console fps games with the ability to be played with controllers and mouse+keyboard. This will cut down on the cheaters since it's not as easy to hack a game on a console as it is for PC, and it will give everyone an equal playing field because everyone is running the same hardware when you play on a console.

[citation][nom]excalibur1814[/nom]It's also down to how good the player is. I've had friends that spent 5 minutes looking up and then down while running around in a fps before now.As it stands, I use both a 360 controller and Mouse+key combo on my pc. Mouse and keyboard cannot be beaten for fps. This has been talked about for the last 8+ years and this keeps going on and on.But, as I first stated, if you're rubbish then no controller will help (But extreme auto aim might )[/citation]

Yeah, i wooped a pal on a Xbox 360 in Halo while i was on a PC

then again concole contorllers are really good with flight sims, driving simulations and Action RPG games

Hmmm, at end of September Final Fantasy XIV goes online for PCs, a month later for PS3s. Wonder if the 2 platfroms will interact or have seperate servers? If servers are shared, that could be quite interesting.

[citation][nom]LORD_ORION[/nom]Yeah but... what about a turn based strategy game??!?! This is where these idiots don't see the potential. The combined console plus PC sales would be a boon for MS.[/citation]
Who cares! PC gamers are trigger happy with themselves. :)

"brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers"
"The console players got destroyed every time"
After reading this, I realized this article is complete BS.

There's a lot more to being good at a game than aiming. Even using screwed up controller (inverting the look, switching button layouts, things that will make me have to really think about what I'm doing) settings I can still pose a threat to my friends on Halo. If they actually did the match-up they said, they console gamers would have won. Anyone who truly believes the input method would have this much of an impact is an idiot. Go watch a "pro" gaming video. Console, PC, whatever your choice is. Look at their aiming skills. If you're a regular gamer, you'll notice that they actually aren't much better at aiming than a regular player. It's all they other stuff they do that makes them good, not super-aim.

Don't get me wrong. The mouse IS more precise. No arguments there. But saying it would let mediocre players beat top-level players is completely and utterly false. I'm saying that aiming precision isn't nearly as much of a factor in skill at a game than most people (and this article) make it out to be.

[citation][nom]andman22[/nom]The benefit of a console is an even playing field for every one. It puts more emphasis in who is better at the game, and not who has a better system. PC's and consoles are two completely different things.[/citation]

Actually your comment is extremely untrue.

I am better than 99% of the people I play against in Battlefield Bad Company 2, all while getting only 30-45 fps on low settings. And I am guessing more the half the people I play against can max the game out with 60+ fps. People always cry on the forums about their $3000 systems when they just suck at the game.

Mouse+keyboard+skill = Better than anything regardless of how nice your system is.

PC Gamers are not necessarily better. It is their control devices that enable them to react faster to any given gameplay situation. Why don't you give one a burger gamepad and see how they perform. What will they be initially used to? Twiddling their thumbs or sliding their elbows?
