I have 6 lian li sl inf 120 argb white fans in total, they are spinning but have no rgb.

3 fans are dasiy chained and a separate 3 fans are daisy chained, both are connected to sl infinity controller port 1 via splitter. controller is connect at 2 places to sata cable which is plugged into psu. microusb provided is plugged into jusb2 on my msi z390-a pro mother board. mother board bios is up to date.

my mother board has the 4 pin 12v rbg headers, not the 3 pin 5v argb header, but i didnt think this would matter since i am using the controller and the only thing connecting the controller to mobo is the micro usb to usb header. is this correct?

I have tried the following:

update motherboard bios
uninstall and reinstall l3 connect
swap micro usb cord to different usb header on mother board.
swap out controller and all connectors that come with fans.

please help.

What you have done all sounds correct. Within the L-Connect software tool is there a place where you can specify whether lighting control is done by this Controller box OR by input from a mobo ARGB header? Since you do NOT have input from the mobo, that option (if it exists) must be set to control by this Controller Hub itself. Then the software lets you set up the displays.

If that does not help, contact Lian Li Tech Support, You MAY have a faulty Controlller / Hub box.

is this your controller?

it looks like it's just a hub, you have to plug the controller into a 5V ARGB header on your mobo, then it drives the fans from that, I can't find any info that outlines if you can drive the fans without a ARGB header for the controller to copy, like @Paperdoc says, contact Lian tech support to ask, or buy/borrow an ARGB controller with only molex or sata power, one of the ones with a button that just outputs preset ARGB signals, and plug that into your lian controller input and see if you get any output

The mother board on this build does not have the 3 pin 5v headers.

I have the same setup in another computer i just built with a different motherboard (b650 aorus elite ax ICE) and connected it the same way and lights work fine through l3 connect. There is no 3 pin 5v going from the controller to the mobo, just the micro usb to usb header cord going from the controller to the mobo. It did come with a 3 pin 5v plug to go from mobo to controller but this is optional and only needs to be plugged in if I wish to control the rgb from the gigabyte software through my mobo.

thank you for taking the time to help.

I contacted lian li waiting to hear back.

There is a setting to swap from l3 to mobo control but did not get the rgb to come on when i tried it both ways.

thanks for taking the time to help.

probably best wait for lian to get back to you, see what they say, if you have the exact same setup working in a different pc and that works it sounds more like something is broken or it's a soft-wear issue

no problem
