Hi!

I recently upgraded my Asrock motherboard BIOS version to 6.20, to support my Ryzen 5 3600 but I recently upgraded to a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max.

I am about to give my old board to my sister and she will be using a Ryzen 5 1600 on it. Will it still work without any issues? As per Asrock Site, ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven, Summit or Bristol Ridge CPU is being used on your system.

Thank you.

Notwithstanding what Asrock said before, 6.20 uses AGESA 1003abba which supposedly meant for only Ryzen 3000. It MAY work with Ryzen 1000 but not well. I'd suggest updating to 6.30 which has AGESA 1004b, the 'grand unification' AGESA that supposedly supports all Ryzen generations.

As for me, I'd prefer...
In order to support Ryzen 3rd Gen CPUs, many mobos (because of the relatively small amount of space the boards have to store BIOS info) remove 1st gen Ryzen support when updating to a Ryzen 3rd gen compatible BIOS. See here

However, according to AsRocks BIOS CPU support page
Note1: AMD Ryzen 1xxx series CPUs are able to boot up with all BIOS versions. As to AMD Ryzen 2xxx series CPUs, please update the BIOS to the same as list or later version.

As for me, I'd prefer version 5.4, with AGESA 1006 which was the best for 1st and 2nd gen CPU's before 3000 came out. But I'm not sure it's wise to go backwards so going up to 6.30 is the best choice.
