Shut your computer down ans switch SATA ports. Plug the HDD into the SATA port your DVD writer is currently plugged into. This will tell you if the problem is with the SATA port or the HDD.
Swapping the SATA connectors did not work. The IDE CD drive does not show on POST, however it only boots from that one. The DVD (which is SATA) does show on POST but does not boot from it.

1. What operating system are you using?
2. In the BIOS do you have "SATA Operation Mode" set to non-RAID?
