Hi,I bought a asus gtx 980 strix 2 months back.Recently ,I have an issue, that both fans operate differently. One fan stays shut at idle ,while other one keeps on rotating. Why is that? Do I need to Return it or is it no big deal?
My guess is the fan that stays shut off is slightly stiffer than the other. Personally I would take it back, it could be an early sign of a fault fan bearing
TBH I thought the Strix turns off BOTH fans at idle: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_980_STRIX_OC/30.html maybe your card has a different BIOS to the one TPU tested with.
It's not a big problem as long as they spin up when the card is loaded but you also have a VERY expensive card there, check through the little slip of paper they call a manual and/or contact Asus to confirm the fans are working correctly.
Your only worry should be: How long will it take them to process an RMA?
i remember someone having the fans ruining at 100% at idle i recommended that he reconnects the fan cable and it worked.
try doing that before you RMA the cards
that is normal you don't have to worry about it since your gpu is light load ur gpu only turns on one fan on light load, heavy load both turn on, on idel I think no fans turn on at all, but like I said it normal for a strixs card to do that to save power
It is normal for a Strix card to do that. It's actually as "feature". The card is designed to use the fans for cooling only when it really requires it (I think only once temps reach above 65C)
