At the computer store I manage we have been exclusively using ASUS boards for several years.

I don't know how to even RMA one because we haven't had to. Thats right, hundreds of machines and not a single bad board yet.

The only exception were a some socket 478 Intel chipset models that blew up because they had Prescott CPUs and USB 1.1 connectors from the front of the case plugged into a USB 2.0 header. But this is a known Intel S478 chipset issue. Seen this happen to many other brands of mobo as well. So it wasn't really ASUS's fault.

I've seen a few OEM HP Asus boards die though, and my friend's brother had a bad PCI-e slot on an A8N-SLI Premium.

All in all, damn good statistics we've had.

the only thing I hate about them is the prices they put to their enthusiasts motherboards.

He** yeah! I love ASUS but I really can't see spending $400+ on a MOBO.
I recently have been in the market looking for parts and I can't believe the $200 premium on their enthusiast boards. With the Stryker Extreme they put pricing to a whole new level.

Yes, but I didnt upgrade my PC in the last 3 years so it was time for a good upgrade. I also like the upgradibility on the board.

As long as they release BIOS to fix problems as soon as they find them, Im happy wih it cuz at least i know that ASUS is working on one of their top products. And yes, fix #18 was really weird when I first saw it but still, if that made a user happy, I think thats when they got a new ASUS fan.

BTW, people with prolems on the ASUS forums, IS NORMAL. You will always see people having problems with their boards in the company forums so thats not new. But I also have to mention that the striker HAD many issues at the beggining which is annoying to know.

I agree that they are realizing their issues and fixing them but I was wondering if they had come out with a board revision which would have the new BIOS to prevent the hassle of a customer needing to upgrade their brand new board as soon as they get it.

If they had so many problems they should do a recall and flash the new BIOS, I think doing that would end a lot of the negativity they've faced.

Ive done quite a few builds with ASUS boards between 2000 and 2005 and I did not have trouble with any of them. A P3 I built back in 01 is still in use at a business right now.

I have been very pleased with their products and service. I have an A8N-SLI Deluxe, and it has been a great board (except for a bad NB fan, but that was a $5 fix).

That reminds me... The NB fans on the NF4 series mobos SUCK. I had to change it for a Zalman. Much better. Passive cooling rocks. 😀

yeah the last one (msi mobo) started making noise on me.
it was on a 4 year old mobo.

msi sent me a new one free of charge 😀 . i thought that was pretty cool
of them.

actually a fan for the old one, k8n neo4.
and i had a semi d.o.a. k8n neo4 sli mobo. (it worked and everything)
as long as you didnt turn it off. it would restart, game, and oc fine
just dont turn it off.

anyway the sent me a new replacement that works fine but it wont
recognize an x2cpu. it would work but show only one core.

They do have a new revision which reviewers already noticed and found about. Unfortunately, as of today, nobody has them and retailers dont show the revision version so you dont know which version you will get.

I hope to see a new BIOS soon, Im ancious to see what this new BIOS will bring and fix.

I voted in the positive with some trepidation. Through the past years, I had nothing but good luck with ASUS boards.

Last year I bought a A8N32-SLI Deluxe with my latest computer. Two weeks later, it quit. RMA'ed the board with little hastle. The second board lasted about 7 months. RMA's the the board again, and bought a third board because I needed to use the computer now, not in two weeks. Another board failure and RMA. Now I have two of the boards, one in my gaming computer and one for a business computer which is not overclocked or stressed out.

Similar to 4Ryan6, I've got less then good things to say about the board quality during the past year. I'm planning on using a DFI board for my next build. The best thing I can say about ASUS at present is that the company has put up no unreasonable hastles in the RMAs and the techs I have talked to have been nice about it. One of them even seemed embarassed about the problems with this board. Still, enough is enough and unless and until I hear something good being done with their quality control, my intentions are toward DFI.

If yours has lasted over a year, maybe you got the good one. Even if 9 out of 10 fail, it means someone got the one which didn't.

Don't sweat it sirheck if its lasted this long it'll probably last until you retire it, none of my m/bs lasted past 3 months.

To be quite honest I think its just that particular ASUS m/b line thats buggy, every socket 462 I ever had was and still is operational today, so theres at least a little plug for ASUS.

Sailer and I have every right to be irritated with ASUS about this, we had to ship the m/bs to them each time they failed, insured, so the RMA process repeatedly, adds up with multiple failures.

But for you! I hope your board lasts until you are through with it, I wouldn't wish this misfortune on anyone.

Just picked up a Z Merc USB Gaming Keyboard, and so far its sweet, I am really impressed with it, its taking some getting used to, but for FPS games its going to rock.

Hey Sailer, Hows it going?

This thread tricked me, from its title I just came here mainly to observe this time, I've bashed ASUS enough in the past that everytime someone mentions ASUS now, sirheck has his fun throwing me in the fire. ROFL

He's probably going to get around to you too! 😛

I just want to see if the tarnish on Asus' reputation from my perspective is deserved.

I've had two and both have been very good. The most recent is a A8N32 and although I had trouble getting it set up initially, it turned out to not be the mobo's fault - I had a bad Lite-On optical drive that couldn't read the XP disc. I'm running a 4400+ and it's been a stable workhorse for a year now. Knock on wood.

Except for a a couple things, life is fine. I did have a video card go out, so its off to Sapphire for warrenty repair or replacement. Glad to have spares sitting around. Right now, I'm hoping that this last revision of the A8N32 SLI board works and the BIOS doesn't do anything screwy. I'll know more in a couple months or three.

My last revision is supposedly repaired and packed away in a box, other than taking apart a running machine to test it, I have no way of knowing if its actually repaired.

I did have two Asetek Waterchill pumps quit on me, they're track record is about like ASUS, but I received a certain amount of satisfaction yesterday when I took a sledgehammer to both of them, effectively ending my water cooling days.

Price = Approx $200.00 US
Satisfaction = Priceless :lol:

I'm not joking about destroying the pumps, I had enough of messing with them, RMAing them, I'd spent all I was going to on them, so now they're history.

Life goes on!
