ASUS is Awesome!

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say that my experiences with Asus have been awesome. In fact quite the opposite. This is strange to me. Every bit of hardware that I have dealt with from their company, with the exception of a 10 year old HP mobo, has had at least one "difficulty" that seems like it should not be there. For some things, it was overclocking options, others just plain failed, some have troubles with sensing things (HDD, ODD, etc.), customer support, the list goes on.

I really hate blackballing a company with such a good reputation as Asus from my personal preferences, but my experiences tell me to do so. What I want to know is any positive experiences you've had with your Asus products. Anything that you were pleasantly surprised about after you purchased the product, anything at all.


Please note: I'm not trying to start a flame war with this. I just want to see if the tarnish on Asus' reputation from my perspective is deserved.

I am curious on this subject as well. I'm looking to build a new system based on a core2 duo (probably e6400 and 2 gig ram) and have been trying to get a clearer idea on which asus mb to buy. been waffling between p5l-mx/p5b-vm/p5n-sli.

I'm just getting back into pc's after a long absence and have no idea on some stuff.

I have only purchased a few items from ASUS but all have been exceptional.

My old system used a ASUS P4C800-e Deluxe MOBO which at the time was the best available and it served me well for about 6 years. That system also had a GForce FX 5900 ultra made by ASUS which worked well for games all the way up to FarCry/KOTOR/Doom3. I sold this system in anticipation of building a new one and it still runs great and the person who bought it loves it.

As far as their service I only had to call them once due to the fact that I broke the CPU cooler mounting bracket while removing my socket 478 cooler. I called ASUS and they mailed me a new one free of charge, I didn't even have to pay shipping.

I am currently in the process of building a new system and ASUS is my first choice for components.

I have been very pleased with their products and service. I have an A8N-SLI Deluxe, and it has been a great board (except for a bad NB fan, but that was a $5 fix).

I did have one interesting problem with the board. I tried to upgrade my ram by adding two more sticks of ram (a total of four), but I didn't know that 4X DIMMs could not be run at 1T command rate. My computer crashed. No big deal though, all I had to do was turn it to 2T command rate, which I did. Problem was, this crash killed my SLI. Not my second card, the comp just didn't recognize it anymore. I sent Asus a email, they told me to send the board in. To my suprise, they sent the board back a week later fixed. I was expecting them to send it back saying no problem could be found. This issue still confuses me. The whole thing (except sending the board to Asus) was free. So in my experiances, if there is a problem with their product, they fix it without complaining.

Asus and Gigabyte are pretty much one company now, although they still pumping out their own brand of hardware. I've hard mixed feelings about Asus, although I've never used their customer service support, neither had I used any other. My first MB ever from Asus for the AMD Thunderbird CPU 1.0GHz, don't remember what it was called. It wasn't the best experience since it always crashed on me.

Recently I purchased the P5W DH Deluxe and it's been really smooth, even overclocking was a breeze. Had my E6600 running at 3.6GHz @ 400Mhz Bus Speed (1600Mhz Quad Pump FSB). Everything else that came with the MB is a gimmick (The DH Remote and MP3in are not really that practical or useful) Actually if you use a Dual Slot Video Card such as a 8800GTX, you block the MP3In connection. The DH Remote is pretty much useless unless you want to turn on and off the PC using the remote. The EZ Raid feature is not bad, but it's a PITA if you just want to use the extra SATA ports for normal use instead of RAID.

Ive only had it for a week, so there's still some uncertainty.

If you're looking at an overclockable motherboard, Asus is one of the best in the market. And because of the Asus "brand" they tend to be higher in price.

I had a lot of Asus and a few Gigabytes mobo's since the Intel 8088, 286, 386, 485, even had a rare 586-133 mhz to the actual Pentium 4 and Amd based cpus from Cyrix, Ibm, Athlon, Barton etc...

I never had any bugs with thoses boards, i even had a Asus P2L97 who had gone (not to gently) 3 times in a trash and taken back to service, and to that day it's still working for a children like a charm, Boy this board is Reliable and tough.

Now I'm running with a p5wd2e-premium, a p4 650, 2 gigs of Corsair memory, an Ati X1800Gto, 1x 80gig Sata and 3x 250gig Sata2 drives, an Antec True power 550 Watts psu, and had no hardware glitches with it.

My Problems are with Microsoft products, who aren't rock solid as expected ...

I've owned 3 p4p800 se motherboards, I've had no problems at all with them. When my old PSU blew it fried my motherboard as well, ASUS replaced the board with a brand new one. The board had no visible damage, it just wouldn't boot anymore. They didn't even ask for proof of purchase or if it was still in warranty (it was), all I paid for was shipping :lol:

All in all, I've had a very good experience with ASUS.

A lot. In fact that's my job, and is what I do in my free time. I guess they're fine if you don't want to go crazy with them. Ditto about microsoft though...

I guess I'm in the minority here. Maybe I've just had bad luck so far, but that must just be me.

My woes with ASUS started with an a8n-sli deluxe. DOA, but my local vendor replaced it. Then after about 4 months, the NB fan failed. It had been making noise for a week or two, I cleaned it up and it was quiet. Too quiet as it turned out... It totally stopped, the NB chipset fried.... After a few emails went unanswered, I replaced it with an a8n32-sli deluxe. I'm not sure what happened, but after three months it failed rather catastrophically. Probably a mosfet failed and shorted to gnd, but it took out the CPU and the PSU with it. I was in the middle of an urgent bit of a project at work, and needed a working PC, so got a new CPU, PSU and a DFI Lanparty, replaced the lot and have been happy ever since.

BTW, ASUS didn't want to know about the last failure. Wouldn't even respond. I wish they had a local office I could whinge to...

Never had a problem...Oh sure I've had one not quite work right until I updated the bios. I'm even running one now with "experimental" bios in order to get a Powerleap CPU Upgrade to run. I've run ASUS MB's for years with little other problems including:

Currently running nearly 24/7:
Purchased in 2000 P3B - SLOT 1 with the Powerleap CPU Upgrade (running a P3 1.4MHz)
Purchased in 2004 P4P800 Deluxe -- With a P4 2.8MHz OC to 3.0(ish)
Purchased in 2006 A8N32-SLI Deluxe -- with a Opty 170 OC to 2.55GByte

Previously Owned:
P2B -- I used this to run my old Cel 300A to 450MHz. I actually miss that processor.

So I've owned and had no problems (except as noted above for the P3B) with 5 difference ASUS MB through the years. YMMV.

Asus ranks high in warranty service with me. Their mobos and graphic cards are only so-so. I favor Gigabyte over Asus in mobos and graphic cards.

I have an Striker Extreme which I love that ASUS is working on by releasing many BIOS which fixes a lot of things.

Once I test their customer support, Ill see if this is the company everybody should be buy stuff from. As for now, the only thing I hate about them is the prices they put to their enthusiasts motherboards.

This is one of the things that bothers me about them. The fact that their top of the line motherboard has lots of fixes that they have to make in the bios, months after they release it.

Don't get me wrong, I like it that they are fixing any problems they had, but the fact that they released it in such a manner! I mean, if one looks at the things they fixed for that board (link) one would see that there are some serious problems with the bios when they put it out.

But then again, we're not unused to seeing software come out of the chute half-baked. Who here uses Microsoft products? I rest that case...

I don't mind that hardware fails, sh!t happens. What I can't stand is the deafening silence from the mfg in re: said failure. Telling me that I screwed up, therefore they wouldn't honor their warranty, at least that would be a response, but to just ignore it is unacceptable.

i have had similar expeirences with onkyo
that kind of $hit pisses me off too.

i have had trouble with msi but they have been good to me.

agree that is one of the most annoying problems of Asus, they never release a fully working bios in the first 6 months..
my asus a8n-E still has the problem of disabled floppy in bios = instant hangup when overclocking..

A8N32SLI-Deluxe Socket 939 1st m/b lasted 3mths suddenly died rma'd, through Newegg, replacement m/b lasted 3mths network died, rma'd through ASUS, took 3 weeks to get a response from ASUS, they have the sorriest customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.

The third M/B is repaired but packed in a box, I'm sick of messing with it, I'd give the thing away but I refuse to give someone a piece of crap.

ASUS has lost a customer.

Those of us that have had these problems with ASUS products do have something in common, we've joined the ASUS crap club, all of you that haven't had any problems with ASUS at all, congratulations!, but be careful how you brag about it, you may be next.

the other night my sword(a nice one btw) slid down the wall behind the computer desk 8O

And took out the interconnect cables to the speakers vidcard power cord and all that. it even tried to pull my speakers off the back or the comp-
desk 8O 8O .

everything still seems to work.

He** yeah! I love ASUS but I really can't see spending $400+ on a MOBO.
I recently have been in the market looking for parts and I can't believe the $200 premium on their enthusiast boards. With the Stryker Extreme they put pricing to a whole new level.

a8n5x socket 939 still working
m2n-e socket am2 still working

The issue that I have with ASUS is the bios. I have only had two motherboards that I have owned ever die. One being a Intel dg101 and the other is a MSI kt4v. Don't get me wrong they can all have problems I have only had minor problems that I can fix with my ASUS boards. I will stay with ASUS for my AMD builds and Intel for Intel cpus. I will only change if something that makes so mad to change.
